    GPU Folding for my 5870?

That's an almost $500 motherboard with a fan that has at best a 12-month lifespan. Something like that might be more interesting if a reputable vendor gets around to building one with a proper cooling arrangement.

    GPU Folding for my 5870?

I see a 40 or 60mm fan on that heatsink looking bit over the north bridge, which leads to the obvious question: Why would anyone WANT to play with that?

Win7 XP Mode without Hardware Virtualization

It'll happen. Personally RDP is something that makes "Professional" versions of Windows worth the extra money, and any number of server admins no doubt agree with me.

    Bluray software puzzle...

Just like with DVDs, sometimes they update the protection and you have to wait for it to get broken again. Thinking back, the only BD title I ever had playback issues with was Wall-E, and I more than halfway suspect Disney tried to do some extra antipiracy stuff with that disc.

I just looked at the settings on one of my servers until I found it. If your configuration is weird there's nothing I can do about that. ;) Anyway, Filezilla is a beautiful thing for your FTPing needs.

IT has the same problem: You can't teach somebody to be legitimately good at it. Bad students (most of mine, really) learn by rote, but the rote lesson never applies to reality. Anyway, I just finished a ~400GB torrent download that I'd been working on for the last 10 months. 10 years ago...

    Council rates

In the area around Chicago, there are county and municipal-level sales taxes. Almost every town has them. They're a fact of life. As for what we're paying for, the basic answer is probably a lot more infrastructure than you guys have down in Oz. We drive everyplace, litigate at the drop of a...

This is very, very much how I feel. I hated every minute of getting my BSCS and only got one because I wanted to be qualified to work in IT. i7 920 Motherboard and operating system?

I've been known to do them, just because every once in a while a vastly better CPU falls in my lap and I can cascade out something older. I switched an AMD x2/5200 for an AM2+ Phenom Quad core not too long ago. The x2 went in a super cheap spare parts build I'm going to use around my office.

i7 920 Motherboard and operating system?

Not by the end of the year. LGA1366 has always been an odd duck. After 1156 came along Intel claimed 1366 was a hobbyist technology and that the extra pins to the CPU were for triple channel RAM and other hobbyist wankfest toys. I guess we'll see 1156 and then some new oddball, probably will...

You can also turn on S3 suspend in your BIOS and reference your main machine by its IP rather than its network name in your mapped network drives. HP SAS Expander

The Expander card is $250, minimum, which is still a bargain. You've got to have another SAS controller, figure that'll be $150. You need a chassis ($250), power supply (probably at least $100) and enough drives to make something like this actually interesting. Figure $2500 to put something...
