    Spare 168pin DIMMs

Yes, I am interested in yours, Mark's and ddrueding's. I'm having a hard time assigning a value to the modules, though. I'd like to offer some kind of compensation above and beyond shipping but... Prices for "new" PC100 memory are insane. $25 for 256MB that'll go in a PC that's probably not...

GM: Best Warranty Coverage Out There

I believe my privacy is a fundamental right. I also believe that, if you give someone a tool to violate privacy, it will be used. I'm absolutely positive that Onstar techs are, when they aren't terribly busy, listening in on other people's lives for their own amusement, let along what the...

    ISP detecting ICS

Well, in this case the Tor services were being raided for a very legitimate reason: Tor is popular with kiddy porn-sharers. The Tor people don't want it any more than anyone else does, but, you know, build a secure private network and it's not just going to be used by anticensorship advocates in...

Small Independent Business Owners: Tell YOUR Story

OK, my small business story. When I got out of college, I was all fired up and ready to go to work as one of the thousands of system administrators obviously needed by the .Com boom. I'd been trained as a programmer, but I'd lost my taste for it before I even got out of school. I tried to find...

    Seagate Barracuda ES 750GB

Something I did not see in that article is whether the ES-model drives are designed to deal with additional heat as well as additional vibration. I'd guess that rubber mounting grommets are enough to curb vibration, but not having to add an extra fan (and the noise of an extra fan) would be a...

Onstar = vehicular spyware. They can turn it on whether you pay for it or not, and they can hear what you're talking about in the car. Law enforcement wiretaps Onstar all the time. Yeah, that's something I'd want.

    Fun with Notebooks

I've posted before that I had a good experience with getting support from Gateway. My Gateway Laptop - one that I use pretty much exclusively for running projectors in classrooms and reading comics I've downloaded (one of the few good applications for a 16:9 display!) has had minor display...

Anyway to flash a BIOS from a CD if it's a floppy BIOS?

Some boards cough*Asus*cough absolutely will not accept a BIOS flash from a CD-ROM. You might consider makign a BartPE CD/Thumb drive with the relevant Windows Flash utility on it.

With the SB Live, you have two choices: Microsoft's crippled driver or Creative's sucky one. Take your pick. Bleh. On the other hand, Clocker is right that it'll do what you want it to do. Good DVD Burner?

OEM devices are the same thing as retail minus packaging. NEC or S*ny or Samsung or whichever company is not going to piss off a channel partner by putting substandard parts in bulk packaging. After all, they want to be the supplier on the next go-round as well. The only exception to this I'm...

    Good DVD Burner?

I had good luck with LiteOns for a very long time. At the beginning of this year I got two bad batches of drives in a short period of time so I dropped them for NEC. I will also say that quality control on DVD burners in general is in the toilet.

Several of the ladies in my office use such services. I've seen 4x7s and the like and they pretty much look like photo prints. Just like Walgreens and the like, sometimes they screw up and misprint your stuff, but usually they only screw up one print instead of a whole roll of film.

    Best 20" LCD display

That's why I keep buying projectors. However, it's damned hard to get any work done on a projected screen. They aren't bright enough for text, and it's hard to set up a desk space to really make using your 3 meter^2 screen so that it's actually all readable, anyway. Personally, I use the...

64 GB USB Thumb Drive (For The Filthy Rich)

It's a trade-off. Flash drives have zero seek time. As long as the chunk of data you want is smaller that the maximum DTR of the flash module - something that's highly likely - the flash drive wins.

Yes, but taken in combination, the sound projector is a better deal than buying a HTiB kit. And for what it's worth, it DOES have real speakers. About 30 of them.
