typing this from 2003 Server/VM. The connection works sometimes, and not others. Sometimes I get 4-10 mb/sec, sometimes 75 mb/sec. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. I can deal with that...

Try running ATTO on the drive. I don't think HD Tach knows what SSDs are...or how to rate them. Also, you should really notice the difference? It's not really about SDTR, but access time.

Figured with my rates it was going CAT5. Disconnected the cat5 cable during transfer, and this confirmed it. Checked my ip addresses, deleted the default gateway, and off to 30 mb/sec or so. Not sure what you mean by "and access the share via IP address. ???

How can you tell if the connection is working? I have a prior connection, allowing net access to the router, and, had a common file. File transfers have been between 20-70 mb/sec, so, I guess the connection is there, but is there a way to make sure the file is setup on that connection, or, that...

I work with one set going nearly 600 mb/sec, and, the other is the set just posted. The only really big difference is copying files, and a barely noticeable lag with the server, in most of my functions. I haven't tuned the 7 install on the server to get rid of the built in 'lags' that the MSFT...

Just benched the 3 Vertex Turbo "Brick" in the Xeon machine: Not bad for a 9550 through a PCI-X slot:

Throughput is 300 mb/sec? That would be enough. Often, however, I find it says SATA one, and, that would limit the Vertex Turbo's for instance, quite a bit...About 100 mb/sec lost.

Well, I played with David's 800 mb/sec Z drive machine. And, I've used mine, which is now approaching 600 mb/sec. David has tried them side by side, and, he assures me you can't tell the difference. That is also my experience. I wonder if any human could tell the difference between the X-25E...

Any quick way to tell if the SATA on a laptop is 2 or 3? Would be nice to get max throughput out of an SSD...

Cat 6 crossover cable was 10 bucks. The Beast supports GigE, my server does not, so it will get the card. Looks Like I'll have an unhappy cat, or, I need a one slot exhaust fan...

Doesn't say it supports Windows 7. Problem is I just put a two slot blower in the case to try and get more heat for the cat;-) Seriously, the pci SATA card pretty much makes airflow not great to the graphics card. The 3 speed blower allows me to turn it up during the day, venting the case...

Also, the fan was sitting off to the side, not blowing directly on the drives. I haven't hit those drives with a long, full disk backup in a long time. Really didn't think heat was going to be an issue, but, it was. The alarm went off, but, once it cooled off, the drive finished transfering...

Why is it a waste? David, how does the whole setup work? Bottleneck on laptops for me has always been the dog slow drives. This is a major solution: less power, instant access, what's not to like? What did you image with?

My major objection to the CF-51, is that when loading anything, including booting, it was working at 590MHZ, thanks to the power settings. With a bit of research, I've got it running at 1.6 mhz from boot, and, that makes a BIG difference. I do notice The Beast uses a LOT of ram, more then 2...

Sounds like you need a driver for the SATA chipset. Try going in and loading a driver for the onboard chipset, so the OS can see the drive.
