SSDs - State of the Product?

HMMM. It is SUCH a pain to pull the drive out of the caddie, and plug it into another machine. I guess the Athlon 3000 would have an ide port on the motherboard... For that matter, I think the server does as well...

Mines half that, or less. Runs about 30 MB/sec on both ATTO, and Hard Tach.

SSDs - State of the Product?

It is and it isn't. I'm not jazzed about the false speed statements, and kind of feel like they shipped me an inferior product. A real surprise after their SATA version being exactly the speed they claim. G

Power DVD 10? Anyone used it? Reason to upgrade?

8 came with my Plextor drive, but, it was the standard version, and, would not play half the BR's on my server with 2003. Ordered 9 Ultra, and, The Beast, and both work perfectly. Haven't tried 8 on it. No reason to, other then for testing, and, I really don't want to drive to Salinas if some...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Got the KingSpec SSD Professional, PATA, thanks to Stinker's suggestion. Installed XP, on Panasonic CF-51 no problems. ATTO scores are really low, around 31 mb/sec, vs. 45 seconds for the 7200 rpm seagate it replaced. Boots to login in 21 seconds, vs about 35 seconds for clean install on 7200...

    Hardware RAID Enclosures

Thanks, but I'm kind of done with adding drives to the server, and, don't have room or need really in The Beast. I think you are right that the Supermicro enclosure is best used for drives in a machine on a pretty much constant basis, and, I don't really need that. I can use the two existing...

Power DVD 10? Anyone used it? Reason to upgrade?

I went for it anyway. Turned out to be a bit more expensive then the add, when you throw in the CD etc. Anyway, they moved one easy to use control to I don't know where. Used to be able to click and pick which drive you wanted to read off. Now it auto finds the image you have loaded. Guess I...

    Hardware RAID Enclosures

My point is that when you try and do enterprise stuff with SATA, it's just as hard, or worse then SCSI. The 5 drive SCSI box came with an excellent, working backplane for 100 bucks. The SATA doesn't even really have a working backplane, or it would have 1 SATA out for the 5 drives, yet it still...

    Hardware RAID Enclosures

My problem with this has been that the Supermicro SATA internal box requires 5 separate cables to five SATA ports. Frankly, I'm getting a bit sick of SATA. Seems that some drives work with some enclosures, and some boxes work with certain drives, and not with certain raid cards. In short, the...

    Hardware RAID Enclosures

I just returned one as well. I have two raid cards, and one PCIX slot. 7 doesn't seem to much like either card. One's an 8 port 9000 series, the other 4 port. With the current 9550 running the Raid 0 SSD's, the other port doesn't seem to like removeable drives, and, neither card seems able to...

Hi Seems Cyberlink is trying to sell PowerDVD 10. Mainly with the 3D stuff. Since a couple other threads indicate prolonged exposure might diminish your brains ability to determine depth perception, I'm not really jumping on that part of the sales pitch. Anyone looked at it, or used it...

You should be able to scrounge around and find some used ram on ebay for not too much money. What about a hard drive upgrade?
