I remember an old scam - the flash drive was touted as, say, 2GB, indicated as such in Windows, but was actually a 256 MB drive with hacked firmware that lied. Or something like that.

LM, if the drive will be in an external case, the advanced format will not be an issue. If you're going to use it internally and re using XP, you can run an align utility to fix the issue.

In Firefox, I have it set up so each tab has its own close X, and there is also the X at upper right in a static place. I use whichever makes sense. It would bother me not to have both options.

I fourth the decision. Been using Truecrypt since Fall 2007 with nary a problem. Between TC and SyncBack, I'm happy. I use Serpent for encryption and Whirlpool for the hash.

The HTC Evo 4G is basically supposed to be the HTC HD2 running Android instead of WM 6.5 along with minor hw changes. Incidentally, the HD2 is available at T-Mobile; $200 with a 2-year contract, $450 without a contract. That's an attractive price.

I have bad sectors on the source drives, and I don't know if that has anything to do with these speeds. I did find an MS hotfix for FW performance in XP SP2: KB885222. Don't know if it'll help. I suspect it can't be the WD drive itself; if a drive has a capacity of 1 TB, it's fairly recent...

There are migratory birds that are nesting in some trees about 500 feet away (that's a bad guess). I tried my 70-200mm, but it's reach is still too short. Longer full-frame Nikkors seem too expensive for now. I certainly would like to get one eventually to shoot wildlife, etc.
