NEWZ: 8 Critical MS Patches Coming on 11/Oct

Barracuda ES, worth the price over 7200.10?

The problem many times is that the insides are packed so loosely that the contents shift around quite easily. I won't be buying disk drives from Newegg again. In my experience, eWiz and Directron consistently package drives better.

    Career Opportunities in Tax-Free Dubai...

I was addressing the situation where wealthy people move to Switzerland, Belgium, etc. The singer / movie star / multi-national businessman type. Once upon a time, they would move, not file any U.S. taxes when they were abroad, and then renounce their U.S. citizenship as soon as they acquired...

They caught that as well. If you want to give up your U.S. citizenship, you have to submit the last 5 years of tax returns to prove that you've been paying taxes, regardless of where you lived in those last 5 years.

    DSL Modem recommendations

When I first got DSL service (1999), Pacbell gave me an Alcatel DSL modem; worked well. It's still in a box somewhere. DD, I'm curious; I thought the modem had something like a MAC address that the guys in the CO had to enter into some config at their end. Can you just swap a DSL modem any time...

    More Vista nonsense

I wanted to, Tim, but it's horribly expensive. Being the Luddite I am, I moved from W2k to XP in June of 2006. Tannin forgets that though MS is "rushing" Win 7, it'll be 2013 before it's released. By then Vista SP2 will be a fairly good OS. So going by past trends, I'll be moving to Vista SP2 in...

Installing XP from SATA optical drives

Sorry DD. The only thing I can relate to this now is bad power. One place I worked, two PCs that shared a power outlet kept borking with strange errors, and I just couldn't fix it. But they'd run just fine in the lab. I finally bought expensive surge protectors / noise filter power strips, and...

e_dawg: I have an LG TV that has a feature called "Magic Eye" which, if enabled, is supposed to sense ambient light and adjust the pic based on content. No the LCD doesn't black out, and when everything is apparently ready, the camera won't fire for 3-4 seconds after I press the shutter. This is when taking flash shots in succession. "Computers" forum "new posts" icon sticky

It happens to me occasionally. I believe it's a timing issue; I click on a link, and right about that time, somebody submits a post to that thread. The system thinks there's a new post and turns the flag on, but you've already read the new post. It's so infrequent for me that it's not an issue.
