    It's Star Wars day!

It's worth seeing in the theater. It's worth $8. I'm going again tonight. The workprint download is awful. I'm OK with that 'cause it'll drive more people who were on the fence about seeing it into the theater.

    It's Star Wars day!

Couple more things: 1. Very early in the movie, while the ship carrying Anakin, Palpatine and Obiwan is landing a ship very much like the Millenium Falcon is visible in the lower right corner of the screen. 2. It's scary how much Ewan McGregor looks like Alec Guiness. 3. There's a "The...

    It's Star Wars day!

Let me boil it down for everyone: V > III = IV > III > II > I Did you all get that? I was immensely satisfied. No, Jar Jar does not talk (although, curiously, Ahmed Best is still credited). I was a little disappointed by this - his actions in the second movie obviously had very serious...

    DVR Drive Upgrade?

It doesn't look like that's something people are doing with that particular unit. At a guess, whatever's storing data on the drive probably knows the drive is a 160GB model. If you stuck a 250GB model in it's place and ghosted the contents of the 160 (assuming Toshiba didn't do something funny...

    It's Star Wars day!

There's a real-deal screener on fulldls.com, if you really want it. Quality, especially the sound, is terrible. I saw all the other Star Wars movies, including the first one (I was 2 at the time, so I don't remember it really well but...), on opening day. I remember standing in line through...

Having looked at a co-worker's top-of-the-line Asus 640x200something PocketPC, I think the #1 thing that would keep me from using a palmtop is the terribly small screen. On the other hand, I've heard rumors that Toshiba is planning a laptop with a 19" display, which sounds exactly like...

Apparently. The links work for me. For those of you who don't go to the movies regularly, the MPAA has these cute little PSAs about how downloading hurts the "little guys" in the movie industry - the gaffers and best boys and craft services people. Of course, the MPAA doesn't mention the fact...

Debian has one thing that recommends it - apt. It has several strikes against it, at least in my mind: 1. Hardcore GNU zealotry - woe be to the person who talks about Linux without mentioning the "GNU/" part that Stallman insists should come first! 2. VERY slow updates. Sarge will be out soon...

Is Linux ready for me yet?

SuSE 9.3 is the current version, and at the very least 9.1 is missing the graphical installer and some of the more recent refinements to YaST that make it so nifty. The drivers Mandrake (and Suse) did not have are basically drivers to enable 3D. Only important if you're planning to play games...

SuSE 9.2 is a VAST improvement over 9.0. 9.3 is incrementally better still. I counselled my students to SuSE + GNOME + apt-get for updates and software installs. That configuration takes a bit of work to set up (mostly in installing apt) but is trivially simple to administer. AFAIK, no Linux...

The default password is no password at all. Someone set one, and clearing the CMOS will fix it. On the other hand, it's impressive that a CMOS battery has lasted long enough that it's still a problem.
