Of course, there's always ZTree. Which is like Xtree, but understands modern filesystems, which is something that should make everyone happy. Unless your clients like all the "~1"s, that is.

    From an outraged customer

This dude has cable internet to his house, but he's never used it. He apparently still dials out on a regular phone line. I've *seen* the cable modem. With a thick layer of dust on it! He thought it was supposed to make his dial up work faster. OK, so, anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one...

Are you somehow suggesting that my hobbies are less than wholesome, Tannin? I'd like to suggest to Tea that, unlike other popular fiction, there is a rich legacy of strong and well-chracterized simians in comic forms. Postive role models are just what every growing oranguatang needs!

Supposedly they aren't. They have the same amount of cache memory and operate at he same set of mulitipliers and frequencies. The difference is that the newer mobile chips are made with a smaller fabrication process, I think.

One of the fantastic little doohickies that's part of Firefox is a tool called Mycroft. Mycroft gives me a nifty little search bar immediately to the right of the address bar. Because of mycroft I haven't seen google's front page in a few months. :) Anyway, just to comment on the other thing...

I'm more interested in the budget socket 754 product. I KNOW the Socket A versions are dogs - although at a rather more substantial discount, they'd still be tempting - CPU performance is ridiculous these days anyway. For those interested in a REAL bargain, those still on Socket A platforms...

Er, no, you don't. There was someone here some years ago asking questions about MFM drive settings. Yeesh. That stuff was a memory when I started as a tech, and that was, er, 14 years ago I think. Anyway, I've got a MODIFIED original Mac out in my garage. Modified as in "I threw out all the...

Don't know if anyone cares, but today's Newegg.com update shows AMD Sempron processors are now available. Most of the chip lineup consists of Socket A processors that appear to be slightly crippled Athlon XP chips (slightly crippled = still way, way faster than a Celeron) with a slightly...

I sincerely doubt that I am. WD SATA issue (maybe). Just a heads up

Asus nForce2 boards distinctly need install-time drivers. I have to think that Gigabyte's do, too, since a Silicon Image controller isn't gonna be part of its southbridge.

WD SATA issue (maybe). Just a heads up

That reminds me: Has anyone moved to completely to SATA hard disks for new builds yet? I don't mean your home PC, but the ones you're selling to other people. XP3200+ Stability issues

Funny thing about that: The "big number" remains the big draw. 3200 is more than 3000, and despite my best efforts, it's very difficult to convince some people that an A64/3000 is in fact faster than a XP/3200. At some point I think it's more of a bragging rights issue. The other funny thing I...

Roxio owned GoBack, which was largely useless in the face of XP's System Restore functionality. If XP...

Yup. All you XP-using freaks can now have 460MB worth of updates to install. You can grab the file off a bittorrent site if you're brave, or MSDN subscriber downloads if you're lucky. It's not on Windowsupdate yet. If anyone's willing to host a 460MB file, I do in fact already have it.

    RAID 0 again

The article blithely ignores the vast increase in the likelihood of data loss and at the same time derides the common "desktop storage expert" opinion of RAID0. They test with synthetic benchmarks only, they DON'T use the same benchmarks as either Anand or SR (what's a "storagemark"?), and...

Yes, it did. The uninstaller doesn't dump profiles or extensions. Uninstall/reinstall is a standard request from FF developers, and I think in this case, since tha majority of the fixes were security related, that it might be a good idea anyway; for all we know some old setting in an unused...
