    An SF milestone.

Everyone say hi to our latest user "!!!porn-pushy". With interests like his you can bet he'll be livening up the conversations around here! (note: don't look if you're easily offended. I'm just pointing out that Handy provides a valuable service in killing those accounts)

Ferrite rings...do you use them when you assemble a case?

I've seen them from time to time inside certain cases. The front panel connectors are sometimes wrapped around a ferrite ring.

    Stand up against the DMCA!

The first version of their software (then called X-Copy DVD) was the aggregation of a bunch of free tools. DVD X Copy was a clean re-write.

    Stand up against the DMCA!

I gotta say, the DMCA is particularly odious, but man, if you're just getting upset about it now, you probably ought to read more about it. The shit that gets pulled in the name of preventing copyright circumvention is enough to make a techie's blood boil. Linkage.

    An SF milestone.

In another one of those weird coincidences, I've been posting about my pr0n-browsing habits on /. lately. It is one of my hobbies. Suffice to say, I wrote scripts to do all my heavy downloading for me. Nothing to track around. :)

I'm not sure I'm going to get the speaker and hinge covers back together correctly. Not a big deal. The person who gave it to me was going to throw it away. It has a bad hard disk - 2.5" drives aren't something I keep in spare. But it boots off a 1GB microdrive in a PCMCIA adaptor. :)

Weird. I have a Sony Z505 disassembled on the desk right next to my keyboard. I'm not a Sony fan, either, but I'll give it credit: It's nice and light, and despite its age it still has a good battery.

Grrr... I do wish people participating in this thread, and the odd visitor from SR, would read my initial comments in this thread. The ones about smoking crack? Up there, at the top? I never thought the "Ghost Trick" was real. I *did* report my observations as I made them. That's what one is...

    USB Port To USB Port?

Nope. Straight A-A violates some of the "rules" of USB. If you look at a data transfer cable, there's a little junction box in the middle of the cable that does the switching to make each side think that the thing on the other side is a mass storage device.

The bigger problem I have with Athlon-based notebooks is that I haven't found a really respectable vendor making them. From what I've found, you've pretty much got to deal with Compaq/HP/emachines or else fall off the edge of the world with some no-name company (Avaratec? Jetta?). Of the three...

The bookkeeper in my office has a P25-S607, Tea. I'm really not impressed by it at all. I've stated in the past that I'm not a fan of Toshiba-anything. They seem to be very cheaply made even in comparison to Compaq, let alone IBM notebooks. But the standard Toshiba knocks apply: I can knock...

Outlook XP sucks a great deal less than Outlook 2000. I hate them both, but it's retarded that Microsoft's mail client can be configured in such a way that it can't talk to an Exchange server, which is absolutely possible with Outlook 2000. Also a full install of Office XP has a smaller...
