    Islam above all....

Turkey is a truly secular Islamic state and has been for a little over 80 years. I'd like to put forth that if they can manage it than so can any other Islamic nation. But as long as we're questioning the place of Islamic fundamentalists, why aren't we also questioning Jewish and Christian...

    Islam above all....

At one point, the same thing was said about Catholics. The bible and the talmud similarly teach that god's law supercede's man's. Depending on how strict you want to be that could mean everything up to believers not eating shellfish.

    Disconnect issues with WRT54G

Well, I visited the site in question and yes, it's the router that's disconnecting. I replaced it with a similar but less capable model from DLink. I'm hoping the problem doesn't re-exhibit, but everything was working better when I left. I'm going to set up the Linksys unit in my house and...

Yeah, I'm sure it would've been much better if we'd backed the guys committing systematic rapes and acts of genocide. The US has a history of intervention in Haiti. Every time we do, we screw up. Things just get worse and worse. Those people that fled Haiti are at least in part our...

    Napster is Back

I had 12 or 13 years of classical piano myself. I think that media companies will do anything they possibly can to make sure the barriers to getting music distribution remain as high or higher than they are now. Lots of folks using MP3.com to freely distribute their music found out all about it...

    Napster is Back

emusic.com is a legal music download service with its catalog on line. So I went browsing (looking for both artist names and track names). First I searched for "Arvo" (Part, but his surname has an a-umlaut and isn't always represented properly), a living composer best known for extremely...

I *do* make good money. Good enough, anyway. I also buy CDs. Lots and lots and lots of them. Usually 20 or 30 a month (lately more like 15, but SACDs cost substantially more and there are fewer issues every month anyway.) Except that no one gets rich from classical music sales anyway. To begin...

3.94 million people are using FastTrack right now. D'you think these for-pay services will attract even a tenth of that? IIRC, BMG's last attempt to market for-pay Napster ended up with something less than 20,000 subscribers. I'll take my (in theory, since I'm not sharing any music from RIAA...

I think as long as there's a reasonably common source for free downloads, none of the for-pay services will really be widely adopted. The only issue is how spectacular the failure will be. As I type this, Kazaa Lite tells me there are 3,824,002 people logged on.

Honestly, I'm not writing fiction, and I didn't write that to entertain others. I'm not realy worried about what anyone thinks of the prose.
