No, he doesn't. And if you'll recall, I was railroaded into the festival without being told where I was going.

Yet another reason to like Autralia

    1. A civilized man judges not the shape of the bosums, only appreciates that they are there and available for all to admire. It's possible to be a lecher and also a gentleman (or a gentlelady, even). 2. This thread has more value than a couple of jokes.

Huh? I thought Windows 2000 was designed for networking

Simple file sharing simply disgusts me. I don't know why it's hidden with the Explorer options like that, either. Mainly, it's insulting to me that XP "just does things" that seem, to me, to break rules I thought were well-established and clear... like what ends up in Network Places, and yes...

    Bug in MS Paint

Tried it. Didn't help. Of course, with Symantec Products, the uninstall features are usually so god-awful that they don't work anyway. But I wasn't in the mood to dig through the registry at that point looking for the leftovers, either.

    Bug in MS Paint

I can't reproduce the problem anywhere but there. I tried on my one XP machine and my one 2003 Server and on several 2000 machines. These machines have Symantec AV 8.1. If someone had told me that functionality THAT basic wasn't working right in Windows XP, I'd probably break out laughing...

    Bug in MS Paint

No, they aren't. It happens on the office machines, including some laptops that still more-or-less have the factory config on them. No, I haven't tried it. I never work there on Fridays and in point of fact I'm not working at all this weekend. Besides that, even if it doesn't happen when I'm...

    Bug in MS Paint

I'm only interested in the default operation of MSPaint. It's used in beginning computer classes by people who don't know how to do things like save a file. e.g. Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, Paint. You have a basic drawing program. Notice the things along the sides... (Several minutes...

    Kazaa Lite ++

Kazaa Lite is kind of spiffy. FastTrack has a rep for attracting noobs though, and RIAA shares a LOT of crap files on them - enough that I've found, say, bogus Diana Krall (jazz hottie and probably obscure to most people) tracks on them. The rep for no selection is also apt. Even with K++'s...

First, to address Fushigi's "Stop at Replacement", this link from The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement. The environmental and energy cost of Fushigi's two children will outstrip the environmental and energy costs of an Indian couple having 60(!) children. So even replacement is kind of an...

The only issue with compression is that the machine that receives the drive needs to support the same kind of NTFS (e.g. no NTFS5 on an NT4 machine).

WinAce. The file in question contained around 12,000 image files (a large collection of stuff from someone's digital camera, in a slightly complex directory structure). Zip files....drawbacks?

The compression state is within the file system and does not alter the file in any way. It changes the encoding used to store the file. The compression state is only stored with the file if it's moved on the same volume/partiition. RAR sucks Satan's ass. If the tools were anywhere near as...

  45. Mercutio

    Zip files....drawbacks?

NTFS disk compression is 1. Global within a compressed folder or disk. 2. Minimal in its impact on the system - very, very small increase in CPU utilization for a great deal of compression (how much depends on what you're compressing. I usually see 40% compression on a mix of image-laden Office...
