Pentium-M and Centrino, are you all excited?

My Dell is OK. It'd probably moan about it quite a bit if I'd had to pay more than $200 for it, though. Are P4/2.4s all supposed to be slugs? Or is it just mine?

There won't particularly be a performance loss. He's on SDRAM already, and DDR doesn't really come into its own until you hit a 133MHz bus.

Also Abit. Abit also needs to apologize for being born. And AOL. And Barbera Bush, for marrying George I. George I should never have known the touch of a woman. And I use that term only technically, 'cause I've seen defensive linemen that look more feminine.[1] While I'm at it: Both Jerry...

    Best KT133(a) Chipset Mobo?

Speaking of Micropolis... I found a 4.3GB 50-pin drive in my goodybox this weekend that appears to still work. It holds data and doesn't have bad sectors anyway. It's also louder than some entire computers I have, by itself. I'm still waiting for nvidia and Bush to apologize for being born.

    Best KT133(a) Chipset Mobo?

You need a Shuttle AK32L. KT266 - some doubt as to the "A", but it's got DDR and SDRAM support and it can handle a 2000+ chip just fine. Plus they're all of $60 new. I've got one kicking around in a Linux box and thusfar it's been excellent, even with 1GB of SDRAM (2x 512).

My burner's bezel is broken because of OpenOffice :(

*I'M* crazy? None of my PCs have bootprints (not much of a feat since I'm pretty sure I don't own any boots) on them, and Wordperfect certainly does work well under Linux.

Pentium-M and Centrino, are you all excited?

Centrino falls into the "it'd be nice, but..." category for me. Wireless + low power + reasonably fast ultraportables are undoubtedly good things, but I'd rather someone make a laptop drive that's as fast as a desktop's. That's a more interesting product.

    Iraqi crisis explained...

Tea, I find you guilty of presupposing Shrub has brains to begin with. Iraq is a secular state in the Arab world. There aren't many of those, and given bin Laden's predilection to fundamentalism and what I've read on the subject, I don't think Saddam would be bestest pals with bin Laden...

WordPerfect 2000 for Linux behaves just like the Windows version, far as I can tell. I don't know if it's still available for download, unfortunately.

ATI Charging Some For MMC 8.1 Update

I put the disk from my 9700 in a machine with a 7500AIW and that worked, even the DVD upgrade. I upgraded my 8500DV to everything else but DVD, and that worked, too.

ATI Charging Some For MMC 8.1 Update

I've got the update in-hand. I'll try it on some older cards tonight. I think the only thing that keeps this update from working is DVD support. At least, if I'm reading the site correctly.

ATI Charging Some For MMC 8.1 Update

Huh? 7.1 on a Rage is bug-free. It's missing a single feature (the one-touch record) that 7.5 - 7.7 have, and it's missing support for skins. MMC 7.5 was buggy, but it was designed for a different series of cards, and the bugs were worked out quickly. I can't think of a time I've had a problem...

They're loud. Loud in a "loud" sort of way. Loud enough that midrange SCSI disks aren't particularly annoying. At least, the ones in my SuperMicro tower cases are.

    [NEWS] - KT400A review at Tech-Report

Just to spoil things for everyone, the two chipsets might as well be identical in terms of performance. The nforce2 "wins" more comparisons but usually a tiny fraction of a margin. KT400A will be cheaper, performs just as well. Makes the decision easy for me.

I like smartripper best as a pure ripping tool. DVD Decrypter does other neat stuff, too, though. To get a good-quality divx on a CD, you probably need a bitrate calculator.
