    Photoshop eats my processor...

I reserve bile for Lexmark all-in-ones. I fully expect that all of those have "666" somewhere in their serial numbers. But, OK, all in ones have drivers as bad as scanners. Very possibly worse. Of course, the law of crappy scanner-ness + Mercutio's Inkjet Trashheap Axiom = a singularity of...

    More than corn in Indiana

Tea takes pictures of birds and wallabys and dingos and whatever else they have down there in Kangaroo-land. I take pictures of strippers. 8D I've found a few places to host my pictures. Some on a commercial site which has lots of pics, not all of them mine, from the event. I think Clocker...

Blast from the past? - Miniscribe 8438

I'd be frightened to move that card out to another machine but if it's ISA and you've got ISA slots on your 400MHz PC, it should in theory work with only the the change of some jumpers. I've had lousy, LOUSY luck trying to put MFM/RLL drives in anything faster than a 486 (granted, it's only come...

    Advice on wireless broadband router

While I had mine up, I had it stuck in a deep shadowbox/picture frame thing I found at "Hobby Lobby". I cut the top edge off so the antenna and cat5 cable would be unobstructed but I stuck a photograph on the front. If you were really paying attention you might notice the antenna sticking out of...

    Advice on wireless broadband router

It's not as likely to come up as it was two years ago, but they'll either want all Cell phones or a 5GHz cordless. 900MHz-anything is worthless in high-density living areas.

    Advice on wireless broadband router

It's been FAR too long, mubs. Good to see you back here again. Which are the interior walls (since you'll have to make at least one drop to the AP)? Since these are laptops that'll probably be used elsewhere beside this dwelling, I think in this case 802.11a is out. "A" is IMO the technically...

    Ghost Weirdness

Turns out that Ghost was fudging partition sizes. I looked at the four drives in the same system and noticed that the two partitons on each disk varied in size by up to 2MB. I don't know why or how that could happen. I might've spectulated drive geometry but these are identical drives.

Blast from the past? - Miniscribe 8438

If you've got an open ISA slot and a studly understanding of DOS, you can probably slap in a 3C509 and make yourself a LAN Manager client boot disk. Also, if you have DOS 6 on your old guy, I think the protocol for Win98's Direct Cable Connection" is the same as the one used by the DOS...

What you want is a null-modem cable, and some kind of terminal program, like Telix (if it'll fit on a floppy. If not, there's always Kermit). You have Hyperterminal on the other side, and both programs IIRC offer something that'll allow for serial-line file transfers. The only other thing...

    No New Outlook Express

OWA is "just OK". There are still several functions that the full-featured Outlook client can handle that OWA just can't (although I can't think of any good examples at the moment, 'cause I'm nowwhere near a PC with Outlook) - seems to me that it's at least lacking in things like rule creation...

    Update on computer mini-network server

ISA = bad in this case. PIO mode or no, if there's lots of data passing from ISA to southbridge to northbridge to memory controller, it's generating many, many extra interrupts per second. Data rates off a DVD aren't THAT high to begin with. A 450MHz machine really isn't fast enough for...
