This is the windiest it has been in a number of years. I decided to remove the trees on the property that were >15' when we moved in, and I pay to have my neighbor's trees pruned if they get close to my property (with their consent of course).

Power outages are so rare here it isn't worth it to have one wired in, though I'll probably put in the hook up for that when I put in solar. This was the first power outage in years, and it only lasted about 25 minutes.

Powers out. I only have ~3 hours of UPS for everything before I kick into the emergency system (12hr UPS for modem/router and a laptop). Then I get the genset out.

I don't care about reach, but speed/versatility is important. I have managed to get rid of most of my EF-S lenses, but I'm just as likely to shoot a bicycle or auto race as a product shoot. Of course, the majority of my work is baby pictures of a single client (mine), and those are always fast...

My big question is who were these people that needed more than 20MP? Anyone here feel they didn't have enough? If you do really need all 50MP, how much trouble do you have with lens quality? Is Canon L glass all good enough to not impact things at these kinds of resolution?

Looks like they're trying to go after low-end medium-format cameras? Crazy MP, maximum color and sharpness, low ISO, low FPS. But still waterproof. It actually looks like it would be a good one for my uses, but I suspect it is out of my range. I'm talking to someone right now who is considering...

My mother-in-law is an idiot. Before I just thought that she was irrational and liked to waste time doing useless things. Nope, an idiot. Crazy considering she was a cardiologist. She took the kid in the back yard, where I put in a play table with water and sand. She opened it up and added...

    Super Flower 2000w PSU.

Some mining equipment requires you to provide the PSU separate from the miner. I have a shelf of 1kW PSUs for that reason. Of course, circuit management becomes an issue beyond that. Then again, it shows peak efficiency at 50%, so if you were drawing 1kW continuously (as I am), it might make...

    4k TVs and Monitors

I bought the first Seiki 4k TV when it came out, and had numerous issues with it. Many could be chalked up to just being a super-new standard that wasn't sufficiently supported. That said, it was a negative experience.

    Phone Dying

I run 4 batteries, 3 of which are in standalone chargers all of the time (home, car, work). Rather than leave the phone plugged in for extended periods anywhere I just swap batteries when it runs low (once or twice a day depending on load).

    Phone Dying

If your phone must share the space in your pants with other things, and if you can't get away with cargo pants, you might want to stay away from the Note series. I'm honestly considering a lateral move from an S5 to a Note 4, but the phone has an entire pocket of my (baggy) jeans to itself.

The reason I know it isn't speed limited by the WAN links is that I had originally planned to do the file archive locally and then copy them across. It was the same speed going to the workstation that is connected via GbE to the phone system. At that point I decided to not bother with the...

    Server 2012 R2 Fileserver with Auto-Tiering

The higher-end Synology boxes support SSDs for caching, you don't think that will be enough? 2*800 + 4*1800 = 8.8TB. You might be able to go with fewer features but a solid block of SSDs (not the DC Pro, but many others could be had for <$10k).
