Never before have I had such a hard time finding the price of an item. Behr Ultra "Ultra Pure White" Satin finish, 5Gal bucket All I can find is home depot online selling it by the 8oz sampler. That would be expensive and time consuming.

    Why must TV forsake me?

The only issues I've had with Cable around here is that the modems they provide are crap. I'm ordering one of these for my house.

I suppose that depends on the app. We have an construction-industry-specific piece of software (Harddollar) that requires 3 2008 machines (DB, App, Web). Typically industry-specific stuff is the worst, but these machines have are only touched for software updates once every 6 months. It is all...

4 weeks shouldn't be an issue, particularly on a machine like that in those conditions. The built-in UPS may actually be a benefit. Just in case, you might want to configure the app to run on startup.

I wouldn't expect that kind of uptime from a laptop; they are thermal timebombs. I have yet to find one that can run indefinitely without thermal throttling or crashing. None of them seem to have enough cooling to do the job right.

The business Internet+Basic TV looks like a good deal. 22/5 for $105/mo.

Basically: 1. Build them right 2. Don't install anything you don't have to 3. Don't touch them unless you have to I would certainly be testing all these software programs on one machine, then nuke it for a clean install and just put on what finally decide on.

Not if you make it redundant. All the files may not be on the same drive, but all the files will be on at least two drives each.

    Why must TV forsake me?

I have a number of clients on both DSL and Cable in the area. The best DSL plan will get you around 7mbps, Cable will do 42mbps down and 2mbps vs 15mbps up. Not sure why, but DSL just sucks around here.
  16. ddrueding

    Why must TV forsake me?

Yup, not happy about it. But the speed difference compared to DSL is significant (in my area at least). I've heard that people have had good luck keeping their promotional pricing long-term if they make a bit of a stink, and all I want is internet, so we'll see how it goes.

    An LED lighting project

I wouldn't worry about the wire strength, the electronics box will be in the attic directly overhead and I'll have complete access.
  19. ddrueding

    An LED lighting project

Really? If we were to have the flicker LEDs flicker independently, wouldn't we need an independent wire to each of them? How many and what gauge for the power LEDs?
  20. ddrueding

    An LED lighting project

I'm fairly certain I want everything in the chandelier to be low voltage DC, which would involve even more equipment in the attic and even more wires heating into the fixture.
  21. ddrueding

    An LED lighting project

I gotcha. You mentioned the flickering being out because of the dimmer. Could we make the flickering a seperate light mounted to the same fixture with an independent on/off switch?
  22. ddrueding

    An LED lighting project

Ah, yes, pictures. I'll do those tonight if I can. If we were using aluminum tubes for the candles, couldn't we run the wire inside the tube? The fixture is designed to take the wires inside the tube and then through the inside of the fixture to the top, if we can use small enough gauge.
  23. ddrueding

    An LED lighting project

That does look ideal. Now that the sheetrock is up, we can start to worry about this again. After looking more at the chandelier, I'm thinking it might be a better idea to put all the controls and electronics in the attic and feed power down to the LEDs in the unit. Would the extra wire length...

From what I understand, the most recent batch of docs was released to a number of papers around the globe for analysis and redaction before anything was released. question Gigabit networking cable

No appreciable difference for GbE between 5e and 6. If there was a kink, the concern is that it damaged the cable, not that the kink slows communication. I would probably make a holes a bit bigger, and use great stuff to seal them up when you are installed.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I just eyeball them. Keeping the drive against the back rail, and "feeling" it in. I don't think I'm busting it up too badly; of course, anything plugged/unplugged enough times will break.
