Received my 8 1.5GB Samsung units yesterday. Each was in a plastic clamshell, in a box full of peanuts. Yuk. I'll be testing them thoroughly.

It would be awesome if I could convert that cache to a hard drive. Even 4GB would be plenty for our workstations. One less component in the system.

There are many reasons not to like the oversized fans, not being able to replace them with something quieter being #1 on my list, but they do move a massive amount of air very quietly. They are often the best way to cool a warm machine.

I actually haven't had a drink in about 7 months. I used to drink quite a bit, but don't think I ever had a problem with it. Just decided to stop and my life (and health) have been better. Made the trip to Vegas much cheaper, too.

If I'm putting in 6 drives, I'm also putting in a good PSU and solid cooling...typically that doesn't spell budget case. I'd probably do the Antec Three Hundred.

You are right, of course, which was their intention. They aren't selling you a movie, they are selling you a disk with the movie as garbled as possible. That chart looks a lot better when step 1 involves removing the protection...

Changing topic slightly. I find that the things that are far away that I would want to photograph are things that tend to move (birds, cars, people). This lends itself to hand-held shots (as tracking is required). Hand-holding at even 480mm (35mm eq) is near impossible in anything but bright...

The 5DI still costs considerably more, so I would expect it to. IIRC, the FF sensor helps as well.

That's nothing, the 160GB drive is now at $900. With the 250GB Vertex at $725, there is no valid reason to buy Intel at the moment.

I think Stereodude has the right approach. When I didn't have insurance, when the secretary asked for my insurance information, my response was "I have cash". That usually worked.

Looks like a poor RAID-5 implementation to me. My 9650SE-16 does much better writes.

Batteries.com usually offers both OEM and their own brand. Theirs is usually cheaper with higher capacity.

They just aren't pricing them high enough...
