    Ivy Bridge details

I stuck an E3-1225 on a DH67BL this morning and it works just fine. Which means I have board + CPU for about what a baby i7 CPU normally costs. I fail to see how this is anything but a good thing.

Glass Gremlins v. windshield chip repair

You know, I always thought a crack or chip in a windshield was an instant-fix, no-big-deal issue for one's car insurance. Is it not like that everyplace?

Glass Gremlins v. windshield chip repair

The sad thing is, those calls all come from the same outfit. And they never call from the same number twice. I don't understand how they stay in business. The call blocker on my phone is set up to send any call I get directly to voicemail unless I've whitelisted the number and it's really...

Glass Gremlins v. windshield chip repair

We don't have those guys where I live. I get asked to buy cammed bootlegs of movies that are still in the theater, for random directions to weird places (e.g. Boise, Idaho) because my gas station is basically at the intersection of three arterial highways and occasionally I'll get free passes...

Yes. :) But sechs has moved a couple times I think. dd, Buck, Santilli are all well north of LA. Lunar has never actually sent me anything (even though he said he would) and I think sechs has hopped between coasts at least once.

Reasonable drive configuration for an entry level file server

Putting aside the issue of drive capacity for a moment, what do you all think is a reasonable configuration of drives for a basic file server? One drive, OS + data? One drive for OS and data + a backup target? One drive, cold spare + backup target? One drive for OS, one drive for data, backup...

    CompTIA Storage+

CompTIA, the people who bring us the vendor-neutral A+, Network+, Server+ and Security+ certs, launched a Storage+ certification this week for storage professionals. I'm vaguely intrigued, though I suspect the emphasis will be on SANs or other technologies that I've only barely gotten a chance...

    Macbook Pro first impressions

I got a 27++ 9 cell slice battery to add to my T420. It's a small, flat bar that's about 2" wide and plugs in to the docking bay port on the bottom of a T-series Thinkpad. It weighs around 1lb. I just plugged it in and took my laptop off charge and right now my battery meter indicates that my...

question How do people buy music these days?

The podcasts usually include a very brief statement about sponsorship as well. I just finished listening to this week's On the Media and heard one. But 15 seconds over the course of an hourlong program is pretty inconsequential and even after years of listening it's unusual to see anything like...

One suspects you could find a US proxy for it. I'm less sure about the binary compatibility. It would be awfully silly to run a VM just to listen to Pandora.

You're unlikely to run into an administrative emergency on day 1. The configurations were all scripted and thoroughly automated by a couple...
