Completely serious answer: Put them on Linux, or tell them to browse from a game system like a Wii.

PC Gaming = World of Suck

UT (the original and the 2004 version) are hyper-paced, have great weapon balance, a huge variety of good maps and a lot of good game mods. Modern shooters seem to take the pace to one extreme or the other. Either the game is glacial or it's just retarded bunny hopping combined with spraying...

    Religion Flow Chart

Your religious beliefs look a lot like shackles to me, and what's more, given the number of times someone has told me their faith is the only thing that keeps them from doing terrible things, I think it's a valid question to ask.

    Western Digital SAS drive

    1. This is Western Digital we're talking about. Your VR drives are just saving their failure for later. 2. Why are they bothering? WD just bought some company or other that makes SSDs. Given the already low capacity of Raptor drives and the lack of name recognition among enterprise vendors, why...

Nope. I presume that the game has entered legal limbo. The trailer is a lot harder to find if you want to watch it, too. Goddamnitsomuch.

Why power supplies should not have rocker switches....

That sounds less like a power supply problem and more like a problem with how you have your equipment set up. The only power supplies that don't have rocker switches are the very lowest quality models.

    Windows 7 nonsense

Well, a couple of things happened. One is that they moved from having maybe OEM to Open Licensing, and from having some things that were of more than questionable legality (they had a lot of white boxes that used the old TPCRY serial number) to being entirely legal on software. The other is...

    24GB+ of RAM?

Make sure that RAM is compatible on that board's HCL. Anyway, I'm still thinking vMotion is a worthwhile investment for you. It certainly adds a great deal to your ability to manage your Guest OSes, and since you're not planning to buy any more Windows servers, you can use the money you're...

So far I've done one "big" migration of 14 systems in an insurance office to Windows 7. They only use Office, a couple of tools to generate or edit PDFs and several web-based applications from the insurance networks they belong to (Farmer's et al), which bitch that they aren't using IE6 but...

SSDs - State of the Product?

SLC in general implies higher reliability though, right? That seems to be part of the technology. I'm more than willing to trade off slightly reduced performance if it'll give me "enterprise" reliability at a substantially reduced fraction of the price of high end units.

    24GB+ of RAM?

I think I'd rather split the workload to a second system for redundancy's sake, rather than building some obscenely beefy (and overpriced) single system, but this Tyan board looks like a pretty good deal. I do not like having all my eggs in one basket though.

Phone thread: What phones are you using, and with what plans?

Things that are wrong with that: 1. It's on Verizon. That means having Verizon's retarded interface forced on it instead of whatever it's supposed to have, and paying to unlock features that should be included with the phone. 2. Made by Motorola. After seeing dozens of crappy RAZRs and at...

    Cool virtualizing tool

There's stuff all over the Windows 7 training materials about .VHDs. The Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 installation process uses .VHD in place of .WIM files and the Windows Deployment Service in Server 2008 R2 can deploy .VHDs as readily as .WIM files for supported OSes. That's only a big deal if...

How reliable is the ipconfig /all information?

If you're dealing with non-routable IPs, it's entirely possible that the machine that reports itself as 192.168.1.1 isn't the machine you think it is. I've had to deal with weirdness of like employees bringing in their own Wireless routers. That can cause all kinds of weirdness.
