Sounds good to me. IIRC, a 1x card can run in any slot, but I thought a 16x card could run in a 8x slot @ 8x speeds?

So PCI-X is a brute-force kludge that is here to deal with excess demand on current technology, while PCI-E is a new architecture that promises higher speeds at lower costs (eventually). Do I have it right? Will servers eventually go PCI-E?

Why do we have these two formats? Why are servers coming out with PCI-X slots while desktop video cards are PCI-E? Which is technically superior and which is likely to succeed?

IRC, those are 1x PCI-E slots. Wasnt the spec to include different sized slots for the different speed ranges? The one that replaces AGP is clearly a 16x slot.

Is there any concern about some Socket 754 motherboards not supporting all socket 754 chips (ie. only 32-bit versions?). Not sure how the arcitecture/chipset/layout might provide incompatabilities.

Yup. Filling it with Supermicro 5-in-3s and Fanbusses and LCD Displays.....then upgrade the side fan to a 45cm. Makes for a very expensive looking server.

It's been a while since I've used 2000 server, but I think I remember a bit. I assume you are only having one user connect at a time? If so, you need to install terminal services in "remote administration" mode, that way you don't need a licencing server.

Linux? Yes, it has quite a few quirks. None specifically attributable to the K8N-E that I know of...

I like HTML-Kit. It is definatly a DIY code (hyped text editor), but has quite a few plug-ins and color coded tags 8)

That sounds like the way to go. I have an ingram account and I still ordered 20+ cases from newegg (cheaper).
