This is my 5000th post on Storageforum.
I made my 4999th without realizing that I had gotten so far, and I went to sleep that night blissfully unaware that I needed to make one more.

Which is really too bad, because I haven't slept in the three nights since, waiting for the right words to put in #5000.

No, I'm not kidding. I was driving around today seeing black spots and hoping cops didn't notice all the moving violations. :)

So rather than allow my writer's block and insomnia cocktail have its way for another night, I've decided to just post some damn thing and get it over with.

So, um, thanks for putting up with my near-constant whining about whatever the heck is upsetting me on a weekly basis, and for taking the time to respond. Thanks for laughing at my jokes, whether they're funny or not, and for timely help in the techie forums. Thanks for reading that bit of fiction I sometimes work on (now if only someone would prod me on actually finishing something. I'm not sure I want volunteers. There might be an actual cattle prod involved), and not getting too annoyed when I wander off on some innappropriate tangent.

I want everyone to know that I value the contributors here. Everyone brings something different to this site, and I read and enjoy every word. I wish I knew something that I could do for everyone here to show my appreciation.

Thanks to everyone for keeping our site running. I hope it lasts long enough for many others to make it to, er, whatever the heck someone with 5000 posts is called.

Hairy Aussie.

A badge I shall wear with pride.

Second Bruce: Goodday, Bruce!
First Bruce: Oh, Hello Bruce!
Third Bruce: How are yer Bruce?
First Bruce: Bit crook, Bruce.
Second Bruce: Where's Bruce?
First Bruce: He's not here, Bruce.
Third Bruce: Blimey, s'hot in here, Bruce.
First Bruce: S'hot enough to boil a monkey's bum!
Second Bruce: That's a strange expression, Bruce.
First Bruce: Well Bruce, I heard the Prime Minister use it. S'hot enough to boil a monkey's bum in 'ere, your Majesty,' he said and she smiled quietly to herself.
Third Bruce: She's a good Sheila, Bruce and not at all stuck up.
Second Bruce: Ah, here comes the Bossfella now! - how are you, Bruce?
Enter fourth Bruce with English person, Michael
Fourth Bruce: Goodday, Bruce, Hello Bruce, how are you, Bruce? Gentlemen, I'd like to introduce a chap from pommie land... who'll be joining us this year here in the Philosophy Department of the University of Woolamaloo.
All: Goodday.
Fourth Bruce: Michael Baldwin - this is Bruce. Michael Baldwin - this is Bruce. Michael Baldwin - this is Bruce.
First Bruce: Is your name not Bruce, then?
Michael: No, it's Michael.
Second Bruce: That's going to cause a little confusion.
Third Bruce: Mind if we call you 'Bruce' to keep it clear?
Fourth Bruce: Well, Gentlemen, I think we'd better start the meeting. Before we start, though, I'll ask the padre for a prayer.
First Bruce snaps a plastic dog-collar round his neck. They all lower their heads.
First Bruce: Oh Lord, we beseech thee, have mercy on our faculty, Amen!!
All: Amen!
Fourth Bruce: Crack the tubes, right! (Third Bruce starts opening beer cans) Er, Bruce, I now call upon you to welcome Mr. Baldwin to the Philosophy Department.
Second Bruce: I'd like to welcome the pommy bastard to God's own earth, and I'd like to remind him that we don't like stuck-up sticky-beaks here.
All: Hear, hear! Well spoken, Bruce!
Fourth Bruce: Now, Bruce teaches classical philosophy, Bruce teaches Haegelian philosophy, and Bruce here teaches logical positivism, and is also in charge of the sheepdip.
Third Bruce: What's does new Bruce teach?
Fourth Bruce: New Bruce will be teaching political science - Machiavelli, Bentham, Locke, Hobbes, Sutcliffe, Bradman, Lindwall, Miller, Hassett, and Benet.
Second Bruce: Those are cricketers, Bruce!
Fourth Bruce: Oh, spit!
Third Bruce: Howls of derisive laughter, Bruce!
Fourth Bruce: In addition, as he's going to be teaching politics, I've told him he's welcome to teach any of the great socialist thinkers, provided he makes it clear that they were wrong.
They all stand up.
All: Australia, Australia, Australia, Australia, we love you. Amen!
They sit down.
Fourth Bruce: Any questions?
Second Bruce: New Bruce - are you a pooftah?
Fourth Bruce: Are you a pooftah?
Michael: No!
Fourth Bruce: No right, well gentlemen, I'll just remind you of the faculty rules: Rule one - no pooftahs. Rule two, no member of the faculty is to maltreat the Abbos in any way whatsoever - if there's anybody watching. Rule three - no pooftahs. Rule four - I don't want to catch anyone not drinking in their room after lights out. Rule five - no pooftahs. Rule six - there is no rule six! Rule seven - no pooftahs. That concludes the reading of the rules, Bruce.
First Bruce: This here's the wattle - the emblem of our land. You can stick it in a bottle or you can hold it in your hand.
All: Amen!
Fourth Bruce Gentlemen, at six o'clock I want every man-Bruce of you in the Sydney Harbour Bridge room to take a glass of sherry with the flying philosopher, Bruce, and I call upon you, padre, to close the meeting with a prayer.
First Bruce: Oh Lord, we beseech thee etc. etc. etc., Amen.

All: Amen!
First Bruce: Right, let's get some Sheilas.
An Aborigine servant bursts in with an enormous tray full of enormous steaks.
Fourth Bruce: OK.
Second Bruce: Ah, elevenses.
Third Bruce: This should tide us over 'til lunchtime.
Second Bruce: Reckon so, Bruce.

Dude, you're a......Hairy Aussie!

Merc,

Thanks for being such a big part of the community here. Your technical and literary contributions are very much appreciated. Even when you are ranting about something you manage to make a (usually funny) joke about it.

And that is a nice looking cattle prod...

Congrats, man!

You're such a part of this place that I missed your posting while you were thinking of something momentus to say for your 5000th post. Thanks for helping to make this place worth coming to, and don't worry about burdening us with your problems. It's no bother at all. I personally feel honored that you share as much personal information with us as you do, and even if most of us feel powerless to help you, I at least hope talking about everything lessens the burden on you.

Here's looking forward to the next 5000 posts. :thumbleft:  :thumbright:

Congrats, Merc. You are definitely a pillar of this community. To contribute as much as you do while still keeping the signal to noise ratio high is an accomplishment. There are not too many posters that are capable of that. I should know, as I subscribe to the seagull theory of posting: swoop in and crap on a bunch of threads, leave for a week or two, only to return to do it all over again.

From one Hairy Aussie to another....

And a damn fine 5000 posts they were too!

Hmmm ..... Once upon a time I think I used to have more posts than you. Merc.

All on my ownsome, I mean, and without bothering to get Tannin's help. Now you are about 1000 posts out in front of me and Tannin put together.

And that's only talking about quantity. Throw in the humour, technical savvy, and assorted all-round wisdom of your contributions here, and you are indeed the King of Storage.

I'm a bit slow around here these days, and Tannin is hopeless, so I guess that before too long Buck and his sock-puppet Handruin will slip past us as well.

(Or is it Cougtek that's Handruin's sock-puppet? I forget already.)

And here I thought PW was a sock-puppet of CougTek.

Of course, I'm actually yet another creation of the Red Hill mob. Tony is planning a new hybrid personality called "Teatime".

***

Mercutio, you are like a brother to us. Your knowledge and wisdom light up this little nook on the web and give it life.

Our relationship is strong enough that we don't have to always agree. But we usually do anyway. ;)

I hope you will see this milestone as a cornerstone of your future. We all stand behind you in support, and would do more if we could.

Welcome to life after 5000. May it overflow with things that are good and wash away the things that aren't.

That's something I struggle with every day, LM. There's ample proof of that in my life.

To everyone else, all I can say is that I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you. Thank you.

I am also curious to see what happens when the odometer rolls over to 10K.

Now you're getting me all paranoid...am I actually on this board with like 4 other people?

Or are you all creations of the mastermind Mercutio, here to drive me mad? :eekers:

It reminds me of a prisoner episode....

Is there a definitive x-ref list of personalities? Gary has a bunch of them but most of the others alter egos are confusing.

Tannin is Tea and CNN Sport, Ekaf-amI and Grammar Policy
Buck is Bartender and OT Polizei
Pradeep is DrunkenBastard
flagreen is The Giver
NRG is also Rocco Siffredi
Gary Hendershot is Splash, Computer Generated Baby, iGary, Platforum, GIANT, Corvair, Explorer, .Nut, Discfarm and Onomatopoeic (did I spell that right?)

Cougtek, Handruin, myself and The_JoJo have no extra nicks I'm aware of.

I thought myself was one of I's alternate nics...

:p

J/K of course, had to get some "who's on first" humous in there. Thanks for the clarification.

Of course I knew Tony was Tea, Tannin, CNN Sport (longest thread ever at the old SR), Grammar Police (not "Policy" I think), but does Ekaf-amI = I'm a fake?

No, no, not at all. It's just a hazard that it's spelled like this when you reverse the letters. Really

Handruin probably still has "MonkeyC".

I have one other nick I very rarely use.

I have my old account Cliptin which sufaces once in a blue moon when old habits kick in. Other than that I don't think I've created another nick.

I guess that's why nobody started a thread about you passing 1000 posts. You are well past the 2K mark already if you count you old account.

BTW, I forgot to mention that Mercutio, Tannin/Tea, GaryH, Buck, CougTek, and all their alternate personalities are really me. There's also quite a few others I forgot to mention as well. This board truly is just me talking to myself. :mrgrn:

Sybil, is that you?

No extra nicks for me, so there's at least two actual, physical people behind all of these posts.

Seriously, thanks for spending time here, Merc. You posts are frequently amusing, especially when you rant, and always thoughtful. Whenever you're in the western 'burbs, give me a call & we can hook up for lunch or just to chat.

Only one of me that I know of too  (I have enough bother remembering one nick - multiples would be just too confusing.......). And congrats on the 5000 milestone Merc!

I don't have any trouble either. I just glance up at the fifteen or twenty condiment containers on the kitchen shelf (salt, mustard, and so on). If I can count them without taking my shoes and socks off, them I'm obviously not Tea, so I must be me.

Wow, spend a weekend away from this forum, Merc hits 5000 posts and the world of sock puppets is exposed.

Congratulations on your post count Mercutio. You are an integral part of this forum and deserve your new title. I hope some day <sniffle> I can reach that milestone as well.</sniffle>

As for this sock puppet dilemma, Mercutio was close:

Tannin is Tea and CNN Sport, Ekaf-amI and Grammar Policy
Buck is Bartender and OT Polizei
Pradeep is DrunkenBastard
flagreen is The Giver
NRG is also Rocco Siffredi
Gary Hendershot is Splash, Computer Generated Baby, iGary, Platforum, GIANT, Corvair, Explorer, .Nut, Discfarm and Onomatopoeic (did I spell that right?)

Cougtek, Handruin, myself and The_JoJo have no extra nicks I'm aware of.

In turn, Buck is a creation of Pradeep's imagination, Flagreen's strings are pulled by Tannin, and Handruin is the voice behind Pradeep and Tannin. Cougtek is the bizzaro version of The_JoJo. That pretty much leaves about a half dozen real people and DDrueding in the middle. Oh and Tea is not a sock puppet, she is the most realistic orangutan we have.

Congratulations Mercutio. I'd kindly offer drinks on the house, but it looks as if everyone already helped themselves. Serves my right for leaving the placing unattended for a couple of days.

For me it's Captain and Coke or Seven and Seven.

For Merc it's congratulations, without your insight, knowledge, and wit this place wouldn't be what it is at all. You have turned into the cornerstone of SF and I look forward to reading each one of your posts.

Congrats buddy! You have a great deal of knowledge and I'm happy to be here experiencing it. I hope you are around for many more posts.

I'll have to think up a title for 10,000 soon.
