The competition here in in the UK has hotted up quite a bit over the past few months, particularly since B.T (main teleco provider) lost it's monopoly over the local loop (from the local exchange to houses & business premises) & promised to made ADSL available in almost all parts of the country (except for the most remote exchanges). My 512Kb/256Kb uncapped service (£19p/m) has dropped by £2 a month since I signed up in 2002
, whilst there's now a 1Mb/256Kb option available for £29.99 p/m. Other ISPs are also cutting prices, although the main ones (Wannado, AOL, B.T Broadband) still charge well over £20 p/m for the basic service (BT do a cheaper offer, but it's capped) and £30+ p/m for 1Mb/£40 for 2Mb. The cable alternatives are slightly faster (750Kb/128Kb and 3Mb/256Kb), but correspondingly more expensive (£28 p/m & 49 p/m unless part of a package with phone & TV) and aren't available in many areas.
