I just got a new 2600 and 2800 Barton, and noticed the new look on them, around the core.
They actually look kinda neat, me thinks!

But aren't these new ones multiplier locked?

They are supposed to be...but I believe some Russian site just recently discovered how to unlock them...probably won't be long for several solutions to appear.

Quite funny that it's the AMD CPUs that are all shiny but it's the blank-looking Intel P4 that are priced like jewelries.

Damm, so I'll probably need to skip the 166->200MHz FSB part on this one then...

Nevertheless, one BArton 2600 joining the folding team tonight...

Yes, but with the multiplier locked a jump from 166 to the next "official" FSB speed will be too much. :(
And I'm too lazy to try out the speeds in between, because I don't think that the mobo had pci and agp locks on their speeds (a7v600), gotta check though.

2500+'s generally run fine whil;e changing the FSB from 166->200. Don't know about the 2600+'s or the 2800+'s though. Try it, you may find it works fine: If not then simply switch back. (You generally do need PC3200+ ram however to make it work).

Maybe I'll try and see what the 2600 says. Only problem is it's going to a client and I'm getting another 2800 home for myself. With the 2800 it'll probably be too much.

A google found this about the 2600: 11.5x166 , so with the 200FSB, that would do 2300MHz....Hmmmm, that might be possible.

The memory is Kingston 400MHz stuff.
