Does Dell 1704FPV use the same panel as Samsung's 711T?

I know the new Dell 1905 uses the same panel as the Samsung 193P and the specifications of the Dell 1704FPV greatly resemble those of the Samsung 711T. Here I could save around 40$ by opting for the Dell instead of buying the dearer Samsung unit.

I'm not convinced that it is worth the 150$ extra to get a 19" flat panel over a 17" one, since both offer the same native definition (1280x1024).

I dunno the answer to your question but I would agree with you that there is little point in a 19" with the same rez as a 17". Might as well step up to a 20" with UXGA if you want a big screen.

Only time I would consider a 19" with 1280*1024 is if the person has poor vision.

I'm waiting for the 24" WUXGA screen to be released for stand-alone sale by Dell.

a 19' panel is 15.2' x 11.4' (4:3) = 173.238 sq in
A 17' panel is 13.6' x 10.2' (4:3) = 138.72 sq in

magnification = 173.238/138.72 = 1.25

At the same resolution, everything on a 19' screen is magnified 25% more the 17'. That makes everything easier to see.

I agree with Mark. I couldn't use a 17" screen @ 1280x1024 they way I use my 19". I like having the screen a little further away and being able to lean back in my chair.

In contrast my 12" laptop screen @ 1024x768 is acceptible to me because in the typical use of a laptop, your face is much closer to the screen.

Aah, but you folks forget that Pradeep is Mr. Hawk Eye. He'd relish WUXGA on a 12" laptop screen.

Me, I have "poor vision". I'm comfy at 1024x768 on my 17" CRT, and H-A-T-E :cursin: SXGA+ (1400x1050) on my 14.1" Stinkypad.

The higher the resolution the better. You can always up the font size if something is a little on the small side.

I prefer my laptop's 15.1" 1900x1200 to my external 21" trinitron @ 1600x1200.
