I don't know about the downloading - what is legal etc., but it would be way too much work.

I remember watching those shows in B&W before we had a color TV in the house. I recall the early episodes were filmed in B&W anyway.

Yup. When I was watching them as a kid, I got excited when an older B&W one came on. Now my parents have the whole DVD set. I haven't borrowed them yet.

I'm just about finished season 2.5 (on DVD). I'm really enjoying it so far. This would have been a nice excuse for me to go BD.

Have any of you come across "Densha Otoko" a TV series (Japanese with English subs) released in 2005.
I watched it again this week and I can't help laughing (and most times identifying with) with the "lame" hero as he tries to win his love with the help of the denizens of a "singles" thread netsite.
It's supposed to be based on a true story. The whole series fit into 4 DVDs. I suppose it is still on torrent somewhere. IMDB has details.

Yep, she can watch Jeffrey, I can watch Gabrielle (who's in a constant state of THO), and we both enjoy Bruce. He gets the best lines. And really, overall the writing is good. While I could see the client-of-the-week part getting old, the injection of spying techniques keeps it fresh and entertaining. Add the ongoing stories of Michael's un-average family life, complete with a chain smoking mother, and his efforts to uncover why he was burned and the show has a plot that progresses over the course of the season.

Season 3 premiers tonight.

I just plopped down $245 for the Complete Battlestar Galactica on BD.

I am looking forward to getting it.

Ouch, that's a pricey package. I watched pieces of it when it aired but a couple months ago I DL'd most of it in 720p, very much worth it and I never saw much of season 4. I was pretty damn impressed with the whole series especially the ending, I think I will buy it too maybe next year.

Other series I was fairly happy with in order:

Sopranos - very good and will probably buy this one too when I want to revisit.
Dexter - is it scary to identify with this one?
Weeds - pretty funny
Jericho
House
Office - the non us one.
30 rock - sometimes
Big bang theory - it's ok.

I was a fan of David Carradine. Low key and understated.
Sad ending. Kinda like Bruce Lee who likewise had a sad ending.
But the pic in the link shows him like he just got out of bed after sleeping in his clothes. Could be typical, huh!

Well BL apparently died from adverse side-effects/reaction to a pain killing drug, see wiki entries:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Lee

While too early to say, looks like grasshopper got his rocks off for the very last time. Rumors/allegations were he had a substance abuse problem-alcohol. Darwin award? Cord tired around his neck & balls  muslim extremists would have decapitated their victim.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090605/ap_on_en_mo/as_carradine_death

Police Lt. Teerapop Luanseng had said Thursday that Carradine's body was found "naked, hanging in a closet," and that police at the time suspected suicide.

But one of Carradine's managers dismissed the theory.
"All we can say is, we know David would never have committed suicide," said Tiffany Smith of Binder & Associates, his management company. "We're just waiting for them to finish the investigation and find out what really happened. He really appreciated everything life has to give ... and that's not something David would ever do to himself."

Pornthip Rojanasunand, director of Thailand's Central Institute of Forensic Science, said Carradine may have died attempting a sex act known as auto-erotic asphyxiation — cutting off oxygen to the brain for sexual arousal.
The practice is said to result in a form of giddiness and euphoria — similar to alcohol or drug intoxication — that enhances the sexual experience.

"If you hang yourself by the neck, you don't need so much pressure to kill yourself. Those who get highly sexually aroused tend to forget this fact," Pornthip said.

I watched 24 for the first time during the week-end. I rent the first season and went thru in two days. It was good. Not great, but good. It helped a lot to pass thru the usually boring nights (I've suffered from chronic insomnia these last few weeks).

There are something like ten seasons of 24. Which ones are the best?

I've never watched Lost either. I'm less tempted to rent the first season than I was for 24.

TV now is just so much crap. Do we really need a reality show with a bunch of obese women battling over the bachelor? :puke-r::king::puke-l:
Meanwhile scripted shows with good ratings are cancelled because they are not profitable enough. It is only a matter of time before network TV is dead.

Yeah, I haven't paid for cable or satellite for years. There are plenty of good shows out there though.

TV now is just so much crap.

It doesn't me too much as I don't watch a lot, too busy running around after my 17 mth old. I only tend to get to watch about an hour a day from 8:30pm - 9:30pm. But even evening prime-time is getting bad.

But I know my better half is getting really pissed-off with it all. She keeps going on about there's just crap on TV... And I know Austar/Foxtel (Pay TV) is just as bad these days, so won't pay for that either...

What they call "reality" programming I couldn't care less about. There are a few really good scripted shows, though, including Chuck (NBC) and Burn Notice (USA). There are also a fair number of decent shows although they can be hit and miss.

But summer, with most shows in reruns (Burn Notice an exception), is pretty dead.

There are some decent cable shows, but with relatively few episodes compared to traditional networks.

Re: Burn Notice - There were several weeks where no new episodes were released, but they just resumed last week (Season 3, Episode 5). No idea why.

Don't you all have at least 5 TV's, or does it not look good at lesser resolutions?

1 HDTV in the bedroom, 1 SDTV in the family room, both driven from the DishTV HD DVR. The SDTV will be upgraded sometime, but for now we have too many other things wanting to turn our income into outgo.

Oh, I meant David and family. I'm sure most others have plenty of HDTV, except maybe our practical Tony. I'm a bit slow on the newfangled technology. Can the Blue-ray HDTV be played at lower quality on a normal TV, or is it impossible?

My wife and I each have a desktop and laptop at home, and one projector. The desktops are 1920x1080, but only 23". The temporary projector we are running is only 1024x768, with awful brightness and contrast. No actual TVs anywhere.
