Price performance of the x800XL compared to nvidia's more expensive offerings seems to be winning them back from all I've read.

The Inq made mention of the future R520 chip, but it could all be part of the rumor mill. If true, it sounds promising.

ATI's R520, Fudo, is a monster of a chip. Don't count them out yet time.

Worthwhile features:
32(!!) pipes (whether all will be enabled remains a mystery)
Unlimited multi-chip rendering

More important for me, is the card fanless? I just had another MSI video card die with a fan that stopped working. The card was replaced by a nice P-650.

Or then again, it might just be a turd that came to market a day late and $1 short. :D

I think only 16 pipelines are enabled on currently shipping X1800 ATI cards, not 32. nVidia's 7800GTX has 24 pipelines.
