Yes please.

You can send nominations here.

Our goal is to experiment with new ways to help make Internet access better and faster for everyone. Here are some specific things that we have in mind:

* Next generation apps: We want to see what developers and users can do with ultra high-speeds, whether it's creating new bandwidth-intensive "killer apps" and services, or other uses we can't yet imagine.
* New deployment techniques: We'll test new ways to build fiber networks, and to help inform and support deployments elsewhere, we'll share key lessons learned with the world.
* Openness and choice: We'll operate an "open access" network, giving users the choice of multiple service providers. And consistent with our past advocacy, we'll manage our network in an open, non-discriminatory and transparent way.

I think my killer app would just be to have MOAR BITTORRENTS PLS. :D

Seriously though, the main things I can think of just involve having better access to the tons of infrastructure stuff that's already in my apartment, like virtual machines and media files.

I'd like a secure encrypted peer-to-peer friend backup tool. Put all my friend who have computers online into a 'pool' of possible backup storage and distribute encrypted packets of data onto their machines which will work as an off-site backup. They would of course have to allow for this and dedicate a certain amount of space on their system. it could work kind like the ratio system in a bit torrent that for me to backup n amount of storage, I need to also allow others to use my system for a certain amount of storage.

I set up something similar for a while using that private P2P tool...sewer, gutter, something like that.

You're already doing Mozy, right? I can see the P2P thing as potentially helpful for restores, but without some kind of service agreement and a huge number of buddies I not sure how much I'd trust something like that over and above the generally pretty reasonable cost for Mozy on a single system.

I can kind of see a local P2P cloud for media files, but of course something like that would probably get stomped out of existence by RIAA or the MPAA.

1GBps WAN links would probably make things like streaming live video from a game server to a portable device really, really easy, assuming that latencies remain low enough.
