This may well be the worst, slowest-loading, most Javascript-ridden major commercial website in the entire world. I certainly cannot think of any other in the same league of poxiness. I'm not sure what their budget is, but we are talking serious dollars. This is a big organisation with thousands of employees and a turnover in the order of $300 million per year.

Never in the history of the Internet was so much money used so incompetently to create such an incredibly bad site. At least, if there is a worse one of comparable scale, I'd like to hear about it.

Just exactly who's web site is it anyway? It is obviously a sports site of some sort, but for who or what?

Well, if you look at the site, Bozo, you will (eventually) realise it's Australian Rules Football - almost a religion as opposed to a sport. Of course, you have to wait until the pages load (assuming that they do load and don't crash your system, that is), and then hunt around looking for useful information (assuming that there is indeed some useful information on the site, which is possible but not particularly likely).

Thankfully, the players are 7,000,000% better at their jobs than the web page designers. Indeed, it's reasonably common for old Aussie Rules players, when they retire, to go to the States and spend a few years playing NFL gridiron as specialist kickers. (Sorry, I forget the proper name for it.)

I played it as a kid - as you do when you live anywhere in Australia except NSW and possibly Qld - but that was many years ago. As a spectator sport, It's probably the second-best football code going around. Just for the hell of it, I'll list them, trying hard to be fair and balanced:

  • 1: Rugby Union
  • 2: Australian Rules
  • 3: Gaelic Football
  • 4: Gridiron
  • 5: Rugby League
  • 6: Soccer

(Not sure about #4, #5 and #6. Not a huge fan of any of them, but I'd certainly watch gridiron before I'd watch soccer. Most boring football game on the planet, soccer. Possibly even more boring than basketball.)

Using YSlow, a front-end performance tester for Firefox, it gets a 30 out of 100, that's the worst I have seen so far.

Thanks! I guess if I was a rugby fan or from Australia, it would have made more sense.
And, if it was a better designed web page, the heading at the top of the page would have let me know what and who the web site was for.

OT, but I can't help myself. I watched my first 15 minutes of Soccer yesterday, and it was very boring; even though there were 2 goals (one each) in that time.

No sport where the scores often exceed 100 can be as boring as a sport where scores rarely exceed 2.

My neice was on the soccer team when she was in high school. I went to one game and managed to fall asleep. On top of that, I was sitting in the worlds worst wooden bleachers.
Watching paint dry is more exciting.

Other than the poor design (it's way too busy), I didn't have any problems with the page.

Then again, Adblock appears to have blocked a few iframes and scripts....

Pretty much locked up my entire computer before I could see any content other than the title bar and a few things that looked like ads. So I can't really say how bad it really is because I don't think I technically saw it.
