When HP made their announcement last month, I was 100% sure that they were fucked. HP has no idea what it is or where it is going.
My thought is that Meg Whitman was the least bad choice. Nobody worthwhile wants to touch a company going through CEOs this fast. Meg needed a pick-me-up after losing the California governor's race.
As far as I can tell, she's way out of her depth. Her job at eBay was to grow the company; HP, as far as I can tell, is an unwieldy hydra of poorly-integrated businesses -- and shrinking. As I understand it, she's going to have a copilot.
