Thanks Dave. I thought that's what MSDN was for? Or is it a sort of spin-off or name change? Not that it matters to me, mere idle curiosity. There is, I think, only one MS product that I'd actually pay money for (Windows) and two XP licences is all I need for that - so paying US$400 PA isn't on the agenda. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if there are any MS products (apart from Windows, which is a requirement if you are going to run the other software I use) that I'd trouble to install if they were free. Age of Empires mabe? No, not even that these days - I don't have the time to play it anyway.

Every once in a while, Microsoft puts the MSDNAA version on sale and, amazingly enough, does not check for academic affiliation. That's how I got mine. I've even renewed it twice.
