GA-7VT600 1394 - Motherboard died, RMAd it. Got the new one in, installed it, computer booted fine into XP Home. Running slow, remember that you have to flip the switch to make it run at normal speeds. Flip the switch, it won't boot. Safe mode- Works. Try to do a repair install. I've gotten all kinds of stop errors.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
USBPORT.SYS

Disabled everything in the bios, updated to latest bios. Slapped a fresh hard drive in just in case somthing from the previous install was messing it up. Getting memtest and running now. Any suggestions? Help??

What is the reported speed of the processor VS what you actually have?

I haven't used the 1394 version of this board, just the RZ version. However, this problem hasn't happened to me before, and I just use Kingston value memory, which is set at CL3.

I've used the PL version, mated with 2500 Barton's and using Corsair Value Select DDR400 running @166 with tight timings with no problems.

I am omnipresent
Do the problems go away if you put that jumper back the way it was?

Do you have front USB plugged in or any other cards or extra cables?
Any grounding issues inside the case?
Are your fans spinning properly?
Did you use thermal compound?

I've used a few GA-7VT600 1394 without even a hint of trouble.

Can you give us a bit more history with your board, such as how long it was working and what the symptoms were when it died?

You implied that you've tried a different HDD with a fresh install of Windows. What errors/symptoms are you getting with that?

When you say "won't boot", what do you mean exactly?

After enabling the advanced options in the BIOS with Ctrl-F1, can you confirm that "Top Performance" is disabled?

The board has no history. I was having problems with the previous board random rebooting all the time, so I RMA'd the bad board.

The different hard drive was giving the same IRQL and PAGE_FAULT errors.

The board posts fine, goes into Windows starting up, and will just sit there.

Yes, top performance is disabled.

Update : Pulled the board out of the machine, pulled the HSF off. Cleaned the processor off (a little excess Artic Silver), put a Vantec Aeroflow on. Working fine now. I laid a static bag down in the case just in case it was a grounding issue, and reinstalled the mobo in the case. Everything seems fine now. We'll see if it can make it through the rounds of windows update.
