I've read in several different places now that DVD Video discs made with Nero are not highly compatible discs. I've done several now without any problem, using Nero 5.5.10.20 and 5.5.10.28, mostly Disney movies that happened to be below 4.5GB on-disc (e.g. 101 Dalmations).

Is there a basis for the problems with Nero-made DVDs or is it some kind of FUD?

4 out of 5 discs I've burned so far with Nero have worked fine on all players I've tried them on, using Ritek blanks. On the 5th one, the video stuttered, and the audio was out of sync on my parents' stand-alone player, but it played fine on my DVD-ROM drives (I also haven't tested it on my PS2, yet). I still have the files I used to burn it, and should try using another program to burn it.

I don't use Nero anymore. Can't get it to make DVDs that playback on the X-Box. Other players seem to do OK. Apparently it's something to do with the UDF filesystem or something.

Record Now DX works fine for my purposes.

?

Since when is there porn in Disney movies? I heard something about leaves forming the word "SEX" in one of their movies (Lion King maybe?), but that's about it.

So no duplicable errors with Nero-made DVDs except playback on Xbox (doesn't Xbox need a playback kit, anyway, or is that the other thing?)

I've seen anti-Nero DVD stuff a few other places as well. It's really going to bug me, 'cause sure enough I can't find it any more.

If you freeze frame in just the right place during "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", you'll find that Mrs. Rabbit is not wearing undies.
The first video boxes for both "Alladin" and "The Little Mermaid" were pulled because some stupid housefrau decided that the minarets+towers of the castles in the background of BOTH images were too phallic. How long you have to stare at an undersea castle before it turns into a bunch of schlongs, I just don't know.
If suppose you could argue that there's something a little fishy about the living arrangements of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (Eight, actually: Sleazy's lines were left on the cutting room floor), and what the heck is making Mickey's voice that high?

Actually, there are three young moms in my office, all with kids under six years old. I'm not a "kid" person (go figure), but I've met them all and it's a help to the moms and the kids like it, so I'm the nice movie guy.

By the way, those thing about Disney movies and box covers? Those are true.

in The little Mermaid, the preist pops a boner when he's about to mary the prince and the evil queen(who's disguised as a beautiful young woman). It's quite obvious... you don't even have to freeze frame.

I wouldn't call myself anti-Nero. I used to recommend it religiously to all my friends. However in the DVD era it has been found lacking by me.

X-Box does need a playback kit, it includes a doovy you plug into one of the controller ports (apparently contains the DVD software and an IR receiver), and a remote.

Has the Pioneer A06 been released in the states? Did a Google search to see if anyone has done a review of it but no one had. The reason I asked is that there is a shop in Sydney where I can get the A06 for AUS$450.

Cheers,
Edward
