Just correcting myself. The last Intel chipset to natively support PCI off the ICH was the Q77.(Z97 still supports regular PCI slots off the ICH).

The Intel 80-series dropped native support for PCI slots on the ICH, of which motherboard manufactures adopted using PCIe-PCI bridges to provide PCI slots on the motherboard. The most common PCIe-PCI bridges in use seem to be from IDT and TI.

Hopefully for quite a while yet, as PCIe and PCI use a very similar command protocol. (PCIe command protocol is a superset of PCI).I wonder how long PCIe will remain compatible.
