RAID vs single drive performance article

obligatory complaint, just for the record

(Huh? Tannin, you can't just complain, you have to complain about something in particular.)

(Yes I can. In fact, I just did.)

Also, in case I didn't mention it yet, I want to complain. That's a general, one size fits all complaint. Keep it handy and apply it to whichever topic seems to merit it, or else just use it as a Tannin is generally complaining complaint.

I seem to recall someone posting on this board a link to why RAID is a "very bad idea". Anyone know of what I'm talking about?

Why hasn't anyone published a one drive versus two drives article?

People might start putting a second drive in their system and not using it for RAID!

Probably me in this thread, and specifically BAARF.

It's not just Oracle that runs poorly on RAID 5 - any OLTP database will struggle - but the logistics arguments hold for all platforms, particularly as the number of spindles rises.
