Can you guys recommend a 17" Flat Panel Monitor?
My pops wants to replace his monitor with a 17" flat panel.
He doesn't have the cash for a 20" dell like I have.
And the best buy seemed expensive.

So yes money is a factor but let me know what you think.
I told him to get the Samsung 17" whatever model that turned out to be.

Somewhere in time.
Every 17" LCD I've seen runs at 1280x1024 (the same rez 19" LCDs run at). I would have difficulty with that combination of size & resolution. Your dad might too. Either go for a 15" (1024x768) or 19" (1280x1024) both of which should be comfy for most people.

Samsung 173P+. Its price has dropped a lot recently.

Not every Samsung display is recommendable. Most of their 17" models are 6bit panels so they can't show too many colors and sometimes some color banding is apparent. Be sure to visit Samsung's web site and read the specifications of the monitor before recommending it.

Does his computer have a DVI output or just a standard VGA connector?

We have a bunch of Dell 1704 FP panels at work, DVI/VGA, they work great and good pricing if you can get a discount.

About the 19/20"
I took my dad to best buy and showed him all about native resolutions and how every other resolution on it looks crap. And he runs his current computer monitor at 800x600. So I tried to get him to buy one with at least a native res of 1600x1200 so 800x600 wouldn't look like total crap.

But he has 17" at work and says they are fine.
He works at a printer the produces boxes using a big press and plates and stuff like that. They use macs their. So I'm not sure what the 17" he's seeing are.

Nice work. What kind of press(es) do they use for printing the cartons, and what do they use for die-cutting?
