Hi folkes,

long time no see.

Just bought myself one of those, 2 years old, driven 98k km.
I'll get it later this week, then I can post a few pics of it.

Anyone here been into Saab's?

Why wagon(?), because it seems we'll be needing the extra space soon....

I tried to be in a Saab once.
I didn't fit.

Oh, wait. That was an Audi.
Never mind.

True story: There is ONE Saab dealer in Indiana. It's in a town in the west-central part of the state, a place with a population of about 500.

98k km seems like a lot for a 2-year old vehicle. I hope it is stillb under warranty.

I also agree with MERc. At least in much of the US, it makes little sense to buy an off-brand car unless it something exotica and highly deisxrable. Buicks and Lincolns and Troyots scan be serviced at dealkers seemingly spaced every few blocks. I don't know how many Saab dealers there are, but not very many. Maybe they are made with Chevy parts now for all I know.

To be fair, they're probably a little more common in Finland. what with being right next to Sweden and all.

I like the 9-5, the only negative thing I can say about them (so far) is that the rear suspension might be a bit soft. But I love the seats, and the night panel is really nice when driving in the dark.

The problem with Saabs these days, is that they're starting to look a lot like Saturns.

Did anyone else notice that the new Mustang looks surprisingly like a Jaguar?

How can you possibly call a Saab "off-brand"? That's like calling a Glenfiddich "off-brand scotch" because most of the bottles at the local hooch seller are Johnny Walker and Haig and Grants and 500 Pipers.

T he problem with most GM owned brands is that they are losing their identities. I mean, have you seen the Chevrolet Matiz? :hurl:

In the USA, the closest equivalent of the Matiz is the Chevrolet Aveo.

Tony.

Oops, I forgot the owner was in Finland.

Sorry, but the references to hardcore liquor don't mean anything to me. I have seen Johnny Walker adverts, but that is about it.

3 Saab dealers here in Houston...

I know the dealer where I bought a new Volvo many moons ago *used* to sell Saab, but apparently, not any more. The guy that owned (owns?) that dealership was a transplanted Swede, just like the Volvos and Saabs he sold. He also sold Lotus, Mercedes, and Aston-Martins. The main building seemed like something straight out of a James Bond film -- half-crazed Danish architecture and a helicopter pad on the roof. Bond drove an Aston-Martin as well. Hmmm...

Saab was bought by GM about 15 years ago, because someone with deep pockets needed to buy them to get them out of debt and fund future design projects. I was never particularly hot on Saabs. I recall from my childhood, Saabs with 2-stroke engines. I don't know if any of these 2-stroke Saabs ever made it the USA.
