Server warranty void if moved from original location

During a meeting with people from Insight, they told me that, although it's not advertised, servers' warranty only apply at the original location where they were delivered and installed. If we move (and we plan on moving our offices this summer), the warranty will be void, unless we give the server moving contract to some expensive and certified firms.

Can anyone here confirm this?

I've never heard of such a thing. Though I have experienced many a broken server after a move so I could understand the reasoning. last time I moved a bunch of servers I pulled all the drives, labeled where they went, and moved them myself.

Never heard of such a thing before, unless the servers are under a full management service contract? (That is the servers are managed 100% by a third party, in which it'll be part of the conditions of contract that they move the servers on your behalf as part of the management contract).

I would ask them politely to identify the passage(s) in the warranty statements that allude to such a condition... (that is the exact paragraph number and lines that explicitly state the warranty condition, not a vague reference to page 3 or there about). Nothing in writing about it, then it sounds like some BS they've come up with to earn some extra $$$.

Otherwise as Dave mentions, pull the drives and pack those securely, and ship the servers well packed... (hopefully in original packaging).

And if you ship the servers, before signing for them rotate them once. If you hear a CPU heatsink or RAID card rattling around, refuse receipt. ;)

Yup. For some reason I couldn't get one from San Francisco to Austin without issue. Three in a row dead before I just flew there myself and took one carry-on. Had to buy a seat for it. Pre 9/11, of course.
