The Merkur gets really close. It has areas that are scalloped out, so that the blade gets REALLY on your skin, without breaking it.

Merkur double edge, man that is some old school stuff. I didn't know they still sold things like that.

The Gillette I bought off EBay is pre 1951 and I paid about $10 for it. But yes, Merkur still makes them new.

I'm currently trying DD's shower first method. Only problem is that fogs up the mirror, and my glasses, when I try and shave.

I shave in the shower by feel. It softens up the hairs but it also makes it a simple procedure to clean the head. I would make an incredible mess at the sink.

Howell great link.

For most, the blades I've got last one or two shaves. That's 100 blades for 16 dollars. So, .16 cents a shave if I use them once, .8 cents for twice.

Better then .50 cents each for Disposables that cut me pretty consistently.

Looks like one shave per blade. Wasn't very sharp when I checked it after shaving.
Need sharper blades...

Feather blades? Any experience? Seem to be the sharpest, but, 50 cents a blade?

Just switched out the blade for a shick injector blade. REALLY sharp.
Takes NO pressure to cut a bunch of hair. Scary.

Tried DD's shave blind in the shower. Seems to have worked, with no blood letting.

It's a great way to do a first pass, then come back and finish the little missed spots.

By the time I get through the 95 or so, fairly dull 7 AM blades, I should be ready for some
sharper blades, and have better technique.

Forgot to mention the blade that lasted so long was a Merkur that came with the razor.

Update: Changing the blades in the Hess a pain..

I've been using the straight razor enough to dull a blade, a little.
Changing them is a pain. You don't exactly stick the new blade in by using the injector system.

Found a single blade razor for injector blades:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250936563882

I can't wait to see if that replaces the throw away under nose razors.

It has been pointed out to me that while Gillette Mach 3 blades are normally around $2 apiece, they can be had on Ebay for $1.25 - $1.50.

Are these shaving solutions for the facial hair only? What about shaving the, er, southern regions?

My wife uses the same type of blades I do (Mach 3) without complaint. In fact, she commented that they were better than the more expensive female version.

How can they be fakes, if they are probably made in the same plant as the labeled ones?

For the most part, a razor is a razor.

Though if you want to talk to southern region hair-removal experts, you need to talk to someone doing a male to female gender transition. I know a couple. I have stories. You do not want me to tell them.

I also bought the Mach 3 for my girlfriend and she said it works better than the female razors.

That did not exist, so I was forced to create it.

Heh, in the 70s I had big hair and beard/moustache too. :rr:

Women were pretty hairy then down south, too - not much waxing. :(

I'm happy that things have migrated to less hair on females throughout the years. I know some feminists would show issue with such a statement, but whatever.

Less is fine, but something about none is just not quite right.

Be glad you were not in Europe in the 1980s. Many of the Italian and German women did not shave anything. No money to Gillette and Schick whatsoever. :)

I like that it can change. Fuzzy is OK sometimes and so is none at all. Part of the fun the surprise.

And I don't see what the big deal is about not shaving armpits. Who cares?

MY GF knew a "Franchesca". She was very rich, drove a red Ferrari, with very short skirts, and no underwear, and a hairy...

She was also beautiful.

A Hollywood legend...
