I feel bad for the guy. I wouldn't have expected anyone to get a bum CPU from newegg.

Who was the idiot that redesigned the 2L Coke bottle so that is does not fit in the refrigerator door like a standard bottle?

That is a heck of a scam; buy some 920s, swap out the real part for a fake, return it for a refund. Newegg re-stocks it and sells it again without ever looking.

Yeah. It is a comon problem that returns are not properly inspected. :(

Have you been to an airport lately?
I don't hang around airports overnight. Possibly she was a victim of a weather-related flight cancellation.
What security? They're all trying to keep people out. Once you're in you basically have free reign of the place.

I suppose it all depends on the country.

I think Lunar was just shocked because it's certainly not something you would tend to see in a European country. Generally they don't shut their airports down at any time, and there's serious guys with significant weapons walking around undercover waiting for crazy mofos to try evil things. Not to mention the visibly armed patrols.

Yeah, well here in the US we'd rather put all our eggs in one somewhat ineffective basket.

I'm hardly shocked, and rather amused. However, I can think of some airports in Africa and South America where they probably would not be amused. ;)

Finally got to see Avatar on Saturday; it's been impossible to get tickets for the weekends, and I can't go on weekdays. I felt Cameron has borrowed from a lot of other movies and stories (Matrix, Alien, Potter, Dances w/ Wolves, etc.) but the treatment, artwork, CGI and cinematography were certainly good. Enjoyed it, and my kid has already asked for the DVD when it comes out.

Update from newegg via facebook:

Official update on the Intel Core i7-920 CPU situation
Share
Newegg is currently conducting a thorough investigation surrounding recent shipments of questionable Intel Core i7-920 CPUs purchased from Newegg.com.

Initial information we received from our supplier, IPEX, stated that they had mistakenly shipped us "demo units." We have since come to discover the CPUs were counterfeit and are terminating our relationship with this supplier. Contrary to any speculation, D&H Distributing is not the vendor that supplied us with the Intel Core i7-920 CPUs in question.

Newegg’s top priority is to proactively reach out to all customers who may have been affected to ensure their absolute satisfaction. We have already sent out a number of replacement units and are doing everything in our power to resolve the matter promptly and with the least amount of inconvenience to our customers.

We have always taken pride in providing an exceptional experience for each customer, and we apologize for any inconvenience to our valued customers. We take matters like this extremely seriously, and are working in close cooperation with Intel and the appropriate law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate this incident.

Glad they came clean, I didn't believe they were demo units for a second.

Congrats on Fixture status. Finally. :p

So a funny thing happened to me today. My $150/month Comcast "Business" service has been crappy for a long time, and after finding that a connection to my neighbor's wireless network resulted in generally faster data transfers, I called and complained.

I thought my service was supposed to be 12M down, 1M up, but I was seeing 2 - 4Mbit down and pathetic ups (which, granted, might have something to do with the modem-melting number of torrents I usually have open).

After sitting through the moron diagnostics, someone I was transferred to made the hilarious comment "Oh, you're not even on our IP range! I'll bet you used to have consumer service!"

Sure enough, he did some kind of remote flash of my modem and my crap is magically a lot faster. And oddly enough, $150/month buys a lot more bandwidth now than it did when I *thought* I signed up. According to speed tests, my modem can deliver 35 - 75Mbit down and 5 - 10Mbit up. I'm not sure it's going to stay that way but right now I am weird combination of very happy and very pissed off.

Will you get credited for all the time when you were paying for service you weren't getting?

Indiana state law caps that sort of thing at six months of credit, and I'm not sure I qualify since service WAS delivered. Also, I'm not sure what "package" I'm in now for future billing purposes. I have nine months of service that I'm obligated to pay for.

I have standard Comcast cable and I get about 12Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up. Does that $150 include your TV as well?

Internet only. No bandwidth cap. Static IP. Rights to run servers. Supposedly no traffic shaping. At the time that I signed up, 12Mbit was twice as fast as consumer service.
