Most likely.

There's an added benefit that I will be more likely to avoid getting hit by a vehicle (which happens quite a bit in crowded areas).

Really? what strange location is this happening quite a bit?

OT, but no iPhone, iPod, etc where ever I walk around here in la la land, and people regularly try to run me down at any given intersection where the light is green and I step into the crosswalk. It's like there's year round open season 'hunting' for pedestrians by drivers...scary!

I always carry...not a gun, but pepper spray no matter what part of town I'm in...cause people get robbed at gun point in Beverly Hills.

Here's some statistics. Seems like a lot to me.

I personally know two people that have been hit by cars in the last couple years. One was almost killed right outside of my office. Multiple broken bones and 6 months of recover time. Not something I want to personally experience.

So follow up on my post back a few weeks in this thread. After doing some searching I find that virtually no kind of dental plan or insurance, no matter how expensive will cover dental implants. Kind of sucks, since this is now considered to be a superior type of care as opposed to always covered bridge/crown work. Bridges require grinding down adjacent teeth to anchor the bridge, so you are compromising the health of 2 other teeth just to gain functionality where an implant would leave those two other teeth unstressed. With my poor genetics, all of my teeth are weak, or not the greatest.

But implants cost a good kidney to get done well (outside of leaving the country and having it done in Mexico, which is questionable to quality of care).

There is one dental HMO that does have a co-pay, but it almost seems like the co-pay is most of the% of what an implant would cost if you went to a dentist that specializes in implants :(. This seems true given that the cost of implant is the same regardless of which plan you choose, the least expensive @$118/yr or the most @$274/yr

http://www.libertydentalplan.com/ca/individuals/ca50.shtml

Shoot, top quality laser eye surgery costs less than a single implant.

If you get a dental plan, some have negotiated 10-25% off the practitioners normal rates, when you see a specialist in the network that does implants...which might end up being less expensive than the HMO above^

Which is why there should be a ban on cell phone use of any kind hand free or not, with very steep penalties for violators; in all cars, except those involved with medical/emergency uses. People need to use their cell phones while driving *should* be required to pull over to the curb and stop driving.

day or night, intersections are some of the most dangerous placed for both people(pedestrians) and cars. Not sure what can be done about all the bad drivers that keep trying to use me as practice for improving their bowling game :D

Can't believe that a-hole @Hlly Farmers mkt late last year, that did not signal a left hand turn in the intersection, had his door partially cracked open at the time the light turned green and he proceeded to move while I was walking across the crosswalk and nearly ran me over as he was reaching for something inside his car...this @the same time he was in motion making a friggin turn! He didn't care, wasn't paying *any* attention to what he was doing as far a driving.

I am a strong candidate to have all my teeth pulled and implants put in. It is 10x cheaper (including the flight) to have it done in Russia. Once I have the $10k or so to spare, that is the plan.

No more bans! The only ban we need is to ban idiots from driving (which the AARP lobby will prevent). There are people that can manage distractions while driving, and there are those that can't drive regardless. This is where the line needs to be drawn.

The last study I read said that talking to a passenger is just as distracting as talking on the phone, and that adjusting the radio is as distracting as looking at your phone. Some people can handle it, some can't. That is the difference.

Illinois has a ban on talking and texting, yet hands free is still allowed. I don't understand the logic with that one, especially with the amount of evidence that has come to light on the subject recently.

I still see people with a phone to their ear every day. Without proper enforcement and education people won't change.

I'll just buy one of those jetpacks, when they are available, then I'll be safe.

99.99999% of everything on the internet is crap. 64 bits does nothing to improve it. I accept that there is some purpose to somebody wanting a 128-bit or 256-bit internet eventually and that it is a livelihood for the engineers, etc., but count me out.

I started today off checking the weather on my computer while brushing my teeth. I then sneezed with a mouth full to toothpaste. My monitor has looked better!

Damn, I guess you like to multitask! I don't like to do anything else when brushing my teeth. I wonder if it will smell minty for years to come!

Why???? Are your teeth in such bad shape?

Yup. The genetics wasn't that great to start with (Grandma had dentures at 30, mom at 50, dad at 55). Combine that with a dozen sodas a day for a decade, and I currently have about 27 cavities in the remaining ~26 teeth that haven't already been root-canaled or otherwise shelled.

Wow. 27 in 26, root canal and all that crap is just a temp fix. With the price of insurance it really does make more financial sense to get them out.

How the hell could it happen? I joined Facebook a few months ago to see the pictures of my nieces and nephew. I almost never login, unless someone in my family calls me and tell me they've posted new photos. When I viited the site this evening, one of the suggested "friends" they advertise was Adcadet (under his real name). I never mention anywhere storageforum.net in my Facebook profile. How can the people at Facebook know that Adcadet could be a person I'm interested to know? How can they make a connection between a guy in medecine at Mineapolis and myself, without having storageforum.net as a reference point?

I smell Big Brother isn't very far.

Facebook is evil. I've never been to their site, much less created an account. About once a month they send me an e-mail with a massive list of people I know and have known, maybe 80% coverage of my adult social life. It basically states "We know you know these people. Join us and connect with them."

Hell, no...I should e-mail a robots.txt to all my friends.

If the genetics are against you, it really doesn't matter. Every visit to the dentist came back with positive reports; healthy gums, good hygiene, and "oh, look, 3 more cavities".

Did you have your teeth sealed?

So how is it all connected? How do they know?

Ouch! I feel a little better now. I spent ~$7000 on dental work from 1993-1995, didn't see a dentist again until last year, and then spent close to $4000. End result though is 29 teeth still remaining, 2 of the three pulled ones are wisdom teeth, the other is a second molar. 15 teeth ( all in front ) are still virgin teeth with no fillings or crowns. The rest either have crowns/root canals or fillings. Given how much sweets I've had in my life, it could have been WAY worse.

The soda might have did you in more than the genetics. Soda is the single worst thing you can do for your teeth, way worse than candy, especially if you don't have the opportunity to brush them afterwards. I recently more or less gave up soda ( not for the teeth, but on account of what I've read about the high-fructose corn syrup used to sweeten it ).

Try the diet soda.

Diet soda is still very acidic.

Last time I was at the dentist was September 11th, 2001, but I brush four or five times and floss at least once a day.

I don't brush as often as in the past (3x daily), but I visit the dentist every four months for a cleaning. If any defect or damage is detected I have it repaired immediately.

Possibly friends of friends of friends. Possibly adcadet allows FB to access his email contact list.

Yup. Full dental care all the way though when I was a kid. Didn't seem to make any difference.

Last time I was at the dentist they warned me to stay away from the hard bristled brushes. Said they don't clean any better but wear the teeth down. I hadn't really thought of that before.
