They need to be out of the wallet when you dry it off in the microwave.

No, it is not a wallet failure. The card issuer does not indicate the source, but states that my card may have been compromised. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I'm quite cross about this nonsense. It's not that I buy any weird stuff from shady sites on the interwebs.

Perhaps it is all the buying you do in random far-flung places, say when traveling.

That is an excellent point. I've gotten calls of concern in the past from my bank, a quick check online shows that all the transactions were in fact me traveling.

Trying to find a brick and mortar retailer with stock of an Eveready 504 battery or equivalent the night before a competition = :(

Competing in what? I've not seen one of those in years, not that I have been looking. The last device I had that used one of those was a voltmeter from 1968 or 1969. Can you rig up a replacement or is the space constrained?

It supplies power to the electronic trigger on my air pistol.

http://Morini.ch

I believe they revised the design to use more commonly available batteries a couple years ago.

Space is definitely constrained. Normally I have 2 spares in the bag but it's been a while. Called RadioShack, web order only.

My plan of attack:

1. Fingers crossed it lasts the match (current battery does trigger the solenoid, but doesn't have the juice to light the test LED).
2. Take sticky tape with me to roll 10 1.5V button batteries into a DIY mogrification (potential problem of no positive nipple with this design.
3. Total failure and waste of 200 miles there, 200 miles back.

I'm hoping 3. doesn't happen.

Their Morini CM 162 EI looks really nice, but I can't find a price anywhere (before I hunt down a vendor, I'd at least like to know if I can afford it).

Good vendor, I can recommend them.

About $1675.

If you've never shot competitive air pistol I would prob try it before investing. That said, it will take you all the way to the Olympics if you are good enough.

Also you will need a SCUBA tank with DIN fitting (or K to DIN adaptor), or a hand pump (Axsor etc). The hand pump gets to be quite a workout as you approach 200 Bar.

Never did air pistols. Did target shooting with regular pistols (Glock G34), but stopped when I moved and didn't have a good range handy. This strikes me as something that could keep the skills up at home (my living room could easily handle a 10m range).

Certainly from a fundamentals perspective there is nothing better than AP to develop your sight alignment, trigger control and follow through. All focus on the front sight, the target should be a blur in the background (area aim below the black). One handed shooting position gives more of a challenge than a Glock with two hands.

You can also practice at 6m with a reduced size target.

Needless to say, the Morini trigger on micro-rollers @ a tidge over the 500g competition minimum limit is a hell of an advantage over a double action Glock pull.

I think I am interested in starting with this. Considering I don't have anything, what would you recommend?

My usual method is to identify the best and buy it, but at the moment we are saving for a kitchen, and anything over $300-500 would require the wife be informed. ;)

Yeah, it'll be tough to explain something that says "Made in Switzerland" as a $300 toy.

At that price range:

Avanti 747: SSP target air pistol, right hand (switch to left if needed) $190
10m Air Pistol Targets -Eledmann #2000 (250 or 1000 qty) $22-$88
Gehmann Pellet Trap for Pistol $45
A can of Vogel pellets

The 747 is a hand crank single shot pneumatic device (charge by pulling the cocking lever). In terms of accuracy it will group in the 10 ring, it runs about 100fps less than a 162E1 so the pellet spends a little more time in the barrel (good practice for correct follow through).

Edelmann targets are made of heavy stock to get nice clean holes.

I would advise that you call Pilkguns and explain what you are trying to achieve, they may have some better recommendations/advice, as they do this every day.

If you do decide to upgrade one day the rest of the gear will be fine.

Did you win the game?

5th out of 5.

1. Battery died within 3 live shots.
2. One other shooter with a 162E1 didn't have a spare battery.
3. Borrowed club Walther CPM-1 (CO2).
4. Cylinders were room temp so didn't take a full CO2 charge.
5. End result being one low shot followed by one that didn't get there at all (0).
6. I'm spoiled by electronic trigger anf snatched a bunch of other shots.

Lesson learned: always have 3 batteries.

Good point: got home before the snow.

Thanks Pradeep. Bonus points for buying Russian stuff (my wife is from Moscow).

No probs.

Once you've mastered the Izzy, Free Pistol is the next step. If you scaled the air pistol target out it would be like the Free target at 40m. 50m and .22LR means indoor practice is limited to dry firing, good news is another Russian gun contends in the world class stage, the Toz 35.

So I ordered a 1GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GT 440 for my new Sandy Bridge build. I got it mostly for use with GDdecNV. I was going to my put 8600GT into the box, but with only 256MB of RAM I can only decode 1 HD video source at a time and the VP2 PureVideo processor isn't as fast as the VP3 or VP4 version at decoding.

The GT 440 is HDMI 1.3a, 3D capable, has the VP4 video processor, etc., etc. so it should be an improvement.

I expect Mercutio will be along shortly to mock me.

I must agree. I've recently switched from ATI cards to nVidia hardware for their folding performance, and haven't experienced the suckiness that sent me to ATI years ago.

Except for the fact that they get too hot and die early deaths.

Just like some ATI's I remember. My nvidia is still running strong after 3+ years and still in the same temperature range as any modern AMD or nvidia.

My BFG 8800GTX failed roughly once every nine months for the duration of time that I used it. That seems typical of my nvidia experience.

So anyway, paid Amazon Prime Members get streaming video stuff for free now. That's what I wanted to tell you people. How cool is that? It's on Amazon's front page.

Bummer, guess you were unlucky. A better case with better cooling might have helped.

Wow. That was not a business I was expecting Amazon to get into, though I suppose with their Cloudfront business already running, it makes sense.

That is a business that they've been in for a couple years. Amazon usually gives you $5 in streaming credit when you buy a BD and has for a while now. As I understand it, streaming delivery of a movie only costs Netflix about $.18 but a la carte pricing from Amazon is usually around $3/title. This is probably a big win for them on several fronts. I'm sure most people who pay for Prime don't actually use it enough to make it unprofitable.

I briefly became enthusiastic about Stereodude's GT440 - until I realized it cost more to buy and used more power than the AMD equivalent (HD5570-HD5670?). In fact, one review managed to push it past the PCI-e power limit with Furmark.

On top of that, it's unclear whether you're buying a the DDR5 version, the crippled DDR3 version, or the cutdown OEM variant.

I can buy a Powercolor HD5550 here for <$45. There must be a big advantage to VP4 over current Avivo, but I couldn't find it. What is it (apart from the converter you linked that is written solely for NVidia)?

Still a far better product than NVidia was offering 12 months ago.

Hmm, might have to check out prime.

I like the newer fans bith ati and nvidia are using on the big high end cards. A big squirrel cage style fan pushes a decent amount of air and doesnt make much noise for most usage. Think they have better bearings in them than the super thin fans too because they dont seem to get loud after a year or so any more which is really nice.

I'm going to give it a try tonight. I signed up for prime a couple months ago, now I get a video service for free.
