I hear there's a place in France where the ladies wear no pants. There's a hole in the wall where the men can see it all. That might be worth a passport.

They don't have that in Las Vegas?

Getting a passport is an identity theft protection measure. It is much harder for someone to request a replacement than request the first one. Or so said a buddy at the FBI that does such things.

Really thinking ahead, were you? ;)

I was at SFO, having just returned from China, when it was stolen. I was leaving for Buenos Aires the next day.

And this was post-9/11. A company arranges for you to go to the office where passports are processed, and a guard walks you from desk to desk as they put it together. Kinda neat, really.

What the heck is the name of that utility to stop drives and unmount them? Had some sort of red system tray icon and I can't remember the name to search for it. A glance at the toolbox didn't refresh my memory either.

Mmmm...Thai Orange Chicken...tasty

Now that I've moved back to my home town, this place has become a regular hangout. Now they try to poison me. I stop by for lunch; orange chicken and pot stickers, and I get home at 6PM after having 3 glasses of wine, 2 shots of vodka, and 3 shots of tequila. None of which I ordered or paid for. That is a real productivity killer ;)

I wish there were a Thai restaurant closer to me than 25 miles away. :(

Strangely enough, this isn't a real Thai restaurant. The owner is Chinese and the cook is Mexican. The best dishes on the menu are Chinese/American. They didn't choose to make it a Chinese restaurant because, at least in this area, Chinese = cheap.

I don't know what happened there.

My point was something about if the majority of patrons in the restaurant are from the same cultural background as the food, then you know it is authentic.

I did not say that authentic is good for those with different sensibilities.

There's some things going on. Basically my company is impeding the use of a quasi-public school that's basically been set aside for the residents of two wealthy local communities, and the former owner of the building is a politically well-connected dickbag.

As I understand it, the case on its merits is an open and shut thing, but the school has basically said they'd rather pay lawyers to make us move than pay us to leave amicably, and if they're paying lawyers, we kind of have to pay for them too.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if there's some kind of country club drama going on at some level between all the principle actors in this, but that's not the level I get to see for myself. In the end the deal is that the school, if it's going to offer classes next year, needs the space we're presently occupying, and they're not willing to pay to make us go away.

Will you lose your job?

I spent the day out and about. Went out to get some Chick Fil A at the mall. There is only one in the state of Mass that I'm aware of. After that we went to spend time at a friends house and played a new board game called Galaxy Trucker which was fun.

We just finished having dinner and playing Shanghai Rummy with our neighbors. They are lovely people, we just need to excuse ourselves at the end of the night when they start talking religion. They are in their 80s, so there is no point talking them out of it.

Did they try to talk you out of having all this wild sex in the livingroom after sunset with the curtains wide open or do they sleep that late and never noticed? ;-)

Sorry, I'm tired and I'm heading to bed.

Online counts. I'm just flashing back to some single-player computer games in the past where I didn't interact with anyone for several days. It's as if those days didn't exist, I may as well have been dead.

If it is legit, I wonder if the guy realizes it is structured exactly like a Nigerian bank scam. Or course, it probably is a scam, but amazing that they would bother for such a small ticket item.

Such scams (if that is indeed one) have been around for thousands of years, no doubt.

:erm: If it's legit?... Are you serious?!?!?

The odds of it being legit are between slim and none, and slim left town a while ago.

Sure, once I have his money what do I care where he wants me to ship it to as long as it is inside the US and unless it costs you more?

As far as you are concerned its like shipping to his friends house because he will be traveling and living there during the time of the sale.

I would probably try to contact him through the Paypal account (as opposed to the msg board) to do as much as possible to verify the account hasn't been stolen.

Does Paypal have guidelines on shipping to addresses other than verified addresses?

I'm not sure that is wholly true.
Is coverage only available when I ship to a confirmed address?
  • You must ship the item to the shipping address on the Transaction Details page, and the transaction must be marked eligible or partially eligible.
  • Items sold on eBay will be marked eligible even if the shipping address is unconfirmed.
  • Items sold on websites other than eBay will generally be marked eligible if the shipping address is confirmed, and partially eligible if the shipping address is unconfirmed.
  • If an item is marked eligible, protection will be granted for both unauthorized payment and item not received disputes.
  • If an item is marked partially eligible, protection will be granted for item not received disputes only.
What if the buyer asks me to ship to an address other than the address on the Transaction Details page?
  • If you ship to a different address, you will not be eligible for coverage. If the buyer wants you to ship to a different address, we recommend that you ask the buyer to resubmit the payment with the new shipping address.

So, make sure they submit payment with the actual address they want it shipped to.

Although you there are instructions to check the eligibility I can't find what you have to do to make it partially or fully elligible.

What a pain in the butt for people who travel a lot.
