Will it never stop?

I heard xmas music for the first time this year (seven weeks before xmas), last week. And now the barrage has begun in my office. It can't be good for mental health.

But it is good for retailers.

BTW, you're lucky. I first saw xmas goods on display in late August and have been hearing the music for about 2 or 3 weeks now. And I noticed a couple of days ago that a radio station has begun is annual all-xmas-music-all-the-time garbage; I won't give them anothe rlisten until January (maybe).

My wife & I are taking a year off from gift giving. Not to each other or to friends & family. Others have been advised to not give us anything & not to expect anything from us. We will only do cards this year.

Personally, I'd prefer it if people never bought me gifts. Very few know what I really like or want and fewer still would even know if I already had it. And for the items I don't already have, what's left is generally prohibitively expensive. So I mostly wind up with stuff I couldn't care less about but have to put on the plastic smile & say thanks. Blah.

I don't go shopping from the beginning of November until well after Valentines day. Those I know well enough to get gifts for, get gifts when I feel like it. They know if I see something they'd like/need that I'll just buy it and give it to them then, rather than waiting on some deadline/imposed schedule.

My boss was escorted out on Friday evening, I've taken over most of her tasks and report directly to the CEO :)

What did your boss do? Just don't make the same mistake and it sounds like you are golden.

Over half of my department was just let go last week. Fun times indeed.

She was Operations Manager (i.e. oversaw our service bureau).

I now do the front and back end of customer support, technical support, software testing, and R&D interfacing. Also customer demos, operator and maintenance training, and day to day IT issues. I have a part-time assistant. In any case, more than enough to keep me busy.

Then be very careful. This kind of job has a very short life expectancy. Every time there will be something wrong in your department, YOU're will be the first face they'll see. That's a bad assosciation if you plan to stay there for a while. As the ING guy would say : start saving your money.

I'm heading to the airport to pick up my girlfried, it's been weeks. I'm getting really tired of dancing with beautiful women that I can't take home.

I told you. Pack one up and mail her to me. I'll pay shipping.

I am going to be 30 soon and I'm having a hard time seeing how my personal life could get more pathetic than wanting David to mail me a hoochie-chick. :(

Considering I'm just a few years behind you, and that my GF is nearly a decade ahead of you, and that the one I'd send is a decade behind you, I don't think age makes that big a difference.

I'll take one too if you've got any to spare. Young, old, doesn't matter.

My 20+ year old Toshiba television went bad (tube failed). So I decided to buy a new television and sprung for the Samsung LN-R328W.

Are you planning to use it as a monitor as well as a TV, Buck?

Not currently, but the option is certainly there. Right now I have a digital cable box (S-Video), Toshiba DVD player (Component), and an Emerson VCR (coaxial) connected to the new television. Even though it's close to being 10 years old, my Technics Prologic Amplipher/Receiver, relying on analogue audio, does a remarkable job with Surround Sound audio.

I also purchased a couple movies, at it was a joy to watch them with the increased screen real estate. :D

I put some information up on a personals site today.

This one is free and supposedly uses the quantative values of tests to determine possible personality matches.

I guess I did it because I wanted to be extra-special humiliated, 'cause that's what I get.

A "match", for this site, is someone whose quiz answers to 75% of the ~2300 possible questions, are identical to yours. And I can buy into that. It makes sense on some level.

So I spent a large part of my day dicking around on this site, answering these questions, and once I'd done several hundred I clicked "View Matches". I chose to look "anywhere in the world" and "any age".

I had 3 matches above 80% who are straight females (the top result is 82%). I checked. Two of the three are married. The other one hasn't logged in since February. I had 76 total matches. #8 is the first one that is a 75% match, as are 9 - 76.
Checking the bi-females, I do better: 119 matches. For extra-humiliation, I find that their search only displays a random 100 results at a time, suggesting that a person NORMALLY gets more than 100 results. Sadly, the first bi-female on my list is a 77% match, and more than that, 4/5s of the entries I look at in THAT department seem to be women looking for another woman to go along with the man they already have (that kind of crap is why gay people generally can't stand bisexuals, if anyone was wondering).
So... just to satisfy my morbid curiousity, I check compatibility with the gay women: 393 results, but compatibility? The top one is 95%, the lowest result on the second page, #20, is 86%.

I don't know what any of that proves, but it makes me feel like I'm doomed somehow.

The site is okcupid.com if anyone cares or has suggestions for making me a less boring profile.

Sounds like you need to aquire the body of a woman Merc. Once we get the ability to switch easily (a la John Varley's Steel Beach) than we can do away with all this crap and focus on things like compatability.

I'm starting to get seriously worried abut this thread. First we have the desire to "meat people", now we are shipping bodies all around the countryside. (Hygienically frozen in sterile plastic, one hopes.) Can we say "axe murder"?

I think David is referring to a gender change. ;)

It only proves that the women who meet your compatibility criterion are not posting on that site and/or the criterion is not necessary for compatibilty. It would be interesting to see the mean compatibility score for couples married >20 years.

Coug, I have a nice list of victims for you.

OK.

This is the profile I was referring to earlier. Somehow I left it out of my previous post.

Truthfully, I don't know why I am bothering, except that I feel that at this point in my life I have missed important parts of being an adult, some of which require another person. I guess I'd just like to see pessimism proven wrong for once.

The new job I thought I was going to get seems to have fallen through; I can't say I blame anyone, as I was told that the position in question was filled by a person displaced by Katrina.

The other side to that, though, is I am more thoroughly convinced that I know exactly what will happen to me every day for the rest of my life. It's a decent enough life in some ways. But I don't know if anyone here can understand how completely empty it is.

Better to be honest than to lie in order to attract someone. Sooner or later the person will discover the real you anyway, and be mad at you for lying to them. That's not a good way to start a relationship or even a friendship.

BTW, if this part of your profile is true Merc the future looks bright:

The HOW MANY People WILL YOU F*CK? Test 45% - 7 Future Partners!!
:mrgrn:

My results from that test:

20 Future Partners!!
Your Meaningless Percentage is 49%!

Somehow I doubt it, unless they're including ones I'd have to pay for. :eekers:

Mercutio, I thought that was a really good posting. Clearly honest in every possible way. I think that counts for a lot. Don't give up on it.

To follow what Lunar said, you might not be at the right site. But give it some time...

I can ask around, but I'm pretty sure good hygene is in fact one of my strong points.

And I'm a pretty down kind of person. It's not like I have lots of things to be positive about.

Well, your income is enviable. And I'm sure your have very stylized glasses.

You could go to Africa. When they'll see your belly, they'll name you king and you'll have a unlimited supply of AIDS-infected women. Now that would be a life! ;-)
