My wife and I were out for our weekend walk along the beach in Carmel-by-the-Sea last night. We tend to split our attention between the ocean and a critique of the houses along the road. One remodel in particular has held our attention, not a large house (property sold for a relatively low $5.5M) it was well executed with a single open-plan space and lots of glass facing the beach and a simple oak and stone facade. This was the first time the garage has been open, and inside was a Ferrari FF (the only real geek Ferrari). Behind that was a glass sliding door holding a pair of 4-poster equipment racks full of geek porn, including at least 8U of hard drives.

I enjoyed that area when I was out visiting a few years back. Sounds like someone has a nice home with a lot of toys-by-the-sea.

Just looked at newegg for the first time in ages and apparently they allow other sellers in their search results now. Don't like that at all.

Related, I see mentions of fake aftermarket memory cards. Looking for something in microSD 64gb and the and the pricing is wacko $180+ from Sandisk direct, about $74 from amazon but not sold directly from them. Any legitimacy to the fake rumors or is that only on the smaller stuff?

Where would you get a reasonable price on a 64gb microSD for a phone?

I noticed similar results the other day while looking for an SD card. I had not been to newegg in a long time either.

Well I guess I'll just order from one of the Amazon sellers that mentioned specifically the speed grade in the title. If I don't get that I'll have perfect grounds to return it.

Apparently the egg is doing orders/fullfilment for some rather dubious companies now. It is very annoying at the least. :(

It's actually one of the things that really kills me about Amazon, the way they display other sellers and even countries in their search results. I accidentally bought some Bluetooth adapters that are going to ship from china. On Amazon it's very hard to see where the products are actually going to come from and generally standard shipping is going to get to me in under a week as long as it's coming from inside the US so i generally dont care but when I saw the first tracking entry from Shenzhen I realized my mistake. eBay search makes it easy to weed out such sellers when you dont want to see them but amazon search seems to make it deliberately hard to do the same.

If you tick the box for "Amazon Prime Eligible", you'll get stuff that ships from an Amazon warehouse every time, even if you don't have Prime.

I spent two and a half hours on a stair machine last night. This morning I was four pounds lighter.

Why does it take a system with an i7 CPU and decent video hardware two or three seconds to bring up the page numbering options in Word 2010?

You're my hero Mercutio. My knees are so shot I couldn't hope to do ten minutes let alone two and a half.

1810 calories worth.
My knees are fine.

And I don't feel any worse for having done it. Not any better, either. But I did it.

Typically if I lose 5 pounds I'll notice the next time I climb stairs or even climb out of the car. That is probably the smallest increment that I can notice without measuring.

Was this just to try and see if you could or did you have a reason to exercise for this length of time. Do you ever do any other time of exercise like muscle building?

I met a nice young woman back at the end of May. We were seeing each other a couple times a week for some reason or other. Made plans to do things into September and October.
Last week she just kind of vanished from normal forms of communication. When I finally got her to answer me she told me that she met somebody else and they spent all weekend screwing.

Sorry to hear that. That can be very frustrating when they just disappear from the norm. She should have at least given you some decency to say she was no longer interested. If she can't even give you that, you're better off without her screwing with your life even if things feel sucky and shitty right now. Is this your stripper friend or another acquaintance?

Even more of a reason it's better she has left now before things became more serious. People don't like dealing with true emotions head on. It's easier to turn a blind eye and more on than to tell you straight up and have to explain whatever real reasons why she did what she did. Even worse is when they've supposedly moved on, realized what they lost when they left you, and then proceed to stay in contact to get back with you after screwing with your emotions. Don't take them back or you'll live this endless cycle of drama.

There is no cycle of drama. I'm just (justifiably, I think) angry. I doubt I'll have further contact with her.
Though she has a bunch of my books. That's annoying now that I think of it.

It is justifiable. I was just suggesting that if she discovers an error in her ways and tries to return back into your life, don't fall for it.

Yup. This is the problem with being someone who is actually a good guy. In my experience, women want to date and mess around with guys that aren't good for them, then suddenly decide that they want to settle down and pick a nice guy. This sucks because you, being a nice guy, have basically no chance. They go from fooling around with thugs to married faster than you can keep track. I ended up pretending to be a worse guy than I am just to get some action, and then my wife was stunned at how nice I was after we were engaged.

Women. Can't with/can't without. Sigh.

Generally speaking I live without them.

That your character is strong enough to allow it makes you better than I. I think I've spent 6 months since I was 18 not living with a girlfriend/wife...probably 20 women in all...perhaps half of those were healthy relationships at one point.

Not from what I've read here in the past several months from you. You're more in the game than most here. If we were to dig up posts from 10 years ago, it would sound like you had no hope. Now you're exercising, eating well, lost a bunch of weight, and physically interacting with women. You then, would not know you now.

I have a friend who happens to be a stripper. The challenge in that is trying to treat her like a person instead of her job description. Even she has a hard time with the ethics of wanting to behave that way, but she's usually grateful for it.
This other person was someone I met online. She's pretty straightforward about stuff, so it's possible that she had a zero-to-no-holes-barred moment with this other guy she met over like 48 hours and she legitimately let me know as soon as she could. But it doesn't make me feel any better 'cause I kinda thought I was making forward progress.

Not that it will make you feel any better, but I've experienced very similar results when using the online dating sites. It happens...you have to unfortunately weed out a bunch of bad ones before finding a good one. When it happens, it's like a mind reset. All that you were working towards including the time, emotions, and feelings spent are just dropped and flat-lined. Once the crash has settled in (that it's no longer going anywhere), it can be saddening in some regards to see a future with a person who you thought was everything you wanted just gone in a matter of minutes or hours. It's tiring and sometimes angering, but don't give up.

... yes, because the one actual contact I've had from EIGHT YEARS on dating sites has been so rewarding.

Maybe not if you're quick to dismiss the overall experience as personal growth. Honestly, have you mentally and physically been at a place where you were ready to be in a relationship in those past 8 years? You may have been on dating sites (which is a step in the right direction), but until you sorted out some of your own challenges, how viable was your effort? You used to describe the effect of being in social environments as making you physically sick and/or anxious. That was several years back, but from your recent encounters and descriptions, it sounds like much of that has possibly changed or been managed in other ways? How well would that have worked for you back then while trying to date? I'm sure it would take its toll on your confidence if the only thing you could think about was being sick while talking with a girl in real life. It takes time and confidence grows during this to a point where females can recognize the confidence to a point where it's a balanced relationship.

Err, don't all computer parts come from China?
