Isn't Nitsirk a friend of his? Perhaps someone could reach out to her?

He replied to me. without going into details, the medical condition is still unclear and he is not in the mood to post for now.

Yes, I have talked to him a few times in the last couple weeks. He's alive but not really in a happy place right now. There is no real answer to his medical issues yet and the insurance headache is certainly not making things any easier. That's it in a nutshell.

I've been in the same boat. It sucks when they cannot find the cause. :(

I am omnipresent
Short version: I am as prediabetic as it is possible to be. A1C of 6.4. This is in spite of being incredibly careful with my diet and maintaining a level of physical activity. That by itself is bad enough, since preventing that state of affairs has been my #1 goal in life for the last few years.

The news I have regarding my other issue is all over the place. It might be idiomatic, meaning that it will just go away on its own. I might have a number of degenerative neurological disorders, leading off with MS or myasthenia gravis. The neurologist I've seen wants me to do two dozen different tests, some of which are counter-indicated by my history or provide duplicated diagnostic information. I don't feel like the physicians I have spoken to thusfar have had any particular regard for my situation. I'm trying to find a better neurologist now, but this is difficult since I came in to care "outside" the normal chain of referrals and specialists apparently don't like getting cold calls from patients. There's also a very good chance I could ignore it and see if it just goes away.
My balance is messed up because I'm relying on one eye and it takes me twice as long to drive anywhere because I don't feel that it's safe for me to be on the expressways which are the main ways people travel around here.

Anyway, this is happening and I'm not handling it very well. I have a normal level of depression that I live with and I blew past that a month ago.

That does suck, Merc. It sounds like a Patient Advocate might be a good person for you to talk to at this point. If there is anything I can do let me know (A vacation in CA might not hurt if you just feel like waiting it out for a while).

Merc, glad you chimed in.

You might get better care in a larger city. Do think about this. It will be disruptive no doubt, but you want to get this straightened out. Or are you already seeing docs in Chicago?

And an A1C of 6.4 is no big deal. It can stay there for a loooong time if you continue to be careful with your diet and continue to get some exercise, so don't worry about this one.

Merc,

I'm glad to hear from you but saddened about your present circumstances. I second mubs suggestion of seeking care in a larger city, which doubtless would be Chicago in your case. It sounds like whatever is going on with you will take a physician with a very specific area of expertise to get to the bottom of.

I'm probably way off base here, but is there any chance you might have a vitamin or mineral deficiency? You mention changing your diet over the last several years. It's entirely possible the change reduced one or more key nutrients. I had a B12 deficiency in 2006 when rendered me nearly unable to walk for several weeks, and in a lot of pain to boot. After doing some online research, I figured I had nothing to lose taking B12. The condition cleared up in less than a week. It was doubtless bought on by a reduction in the amount of meat in my diet over the previous months. Is there anything you're not eating at all now that you used to consume regularly?

Yeah. Since he already has good eating habits a little medication should knock it down to normal.

Alive is good.
Have been taking meds to control sugar levels and blood pressure since 2000. Turned 60 last month.
Of course, there are other things and circumstances which make it worth while. The wife, the kids (all grown up but still fun to be with every now and then) the grand-son, and work, too.

Don't give in to the depression. It fucks with your head. You think totally irrational stuff and think they sound rational.
Focus on the positives/hopes/dreams/others.

Glad to hear from you Merc! Maybe staying away from all doctors for a few weeks would be a help. Help you clear your mind and thoughts.

What I linked to was the redo episode. If you saw the first episode they explained that any meat product would work in place of Salami and that would include Hot Dogs.

Congratulations. Although in your case, it doesn't count. You're Asian so you'll live to an hundred years old even if you smoke and you eat hot dog and bacon for breakfast.
Not a hundred I'm almost sure. My father expired when he was 64. I am hoping to exceed that and reach at least 69 (hoping that the wife reaches 71) when I will have been married for 50 years. Quite a long way off. Maybe with some exercise, I'll get there.

Knowing stuff is nice, but knowing people who know stuff is way better.

When my daughter was about 5 or 6 (a dozen years ago), I told her and my wife that there was so much to learn in the world nowadays that it was impossible to keep up. What was more important was to know where to find necessary info, and how to teach oneself. If one can master this ability, one cannot become outdated. What I took several minutes to explain to them, you have said in one elegant sentence!

Apparently I am in such a state of decrepitude that rehabilitation is needed. I am starting with this one. Maybe I can do a situp in July.

Oh, I see what you did there. :)
It was the only option. I'm sure the Coug could fling one a 100m. :D

I bought some 3lbs weight similar to the one you showed for my nieces and nephew a few years back. My brother has a long backyard. I'll check how far I can trow it. Maybe not a hundred meters for the 3lbs one, but certainly more than 30m.

BTW, these days my left elbow articulation hurts (it has been like that for years) so I normally limit myself to 90lbs one-hand dumbells at the gym. I'm no longer exceptionally strong.

Being healthy is far more important. I suspect you are in a very high percentage for your age group anyway. Do you have any arthritis?
