One of my customers had a some meth-head saw his way in to their office a few months back. He took a VCR (part of the old security system), a jar with a bunch of loose change and an ipod that was on somebody's desk but missed the six new-in-box Thinkpads that were sitting behind the receptionist's desk.

When I used to do IT work for pharmacies, we heard of a lot break ins for various drugs...

One funny case was, a brand new pharmacy (opening in a weeks time, still outfitting the store), approx AU$70K worth of servers/desktops/printers all still in boxes were left in the back office, but they took $50 worth of Sudafed... (primary ingredient: Pseudoephedrine which is used take make meth)... It was all caught on CCTV and the persons of interest were known to the local police...

So, some nice enterprising individuals decided to cut the catalytic converter out from under my wife's car when she parked it in the lot of a store for a few hours. :cursin:

Well that sucks ass. Sorry to hear about it.

The van my brother drives for his van-pool had its catalytic converter stolen as well. In fact the company had at least a dozen stolen in one 48 hour period a few years back. It's a common crime here in AZ alone with copper thieves.

It will probably be a wash when it costs about the same amount as the deductible.
It ended up costing ~$294 after a $30 coupon I printed from the internet at a local Midas. My comprehensive deductible is $250 so there's no point trying to give my insurance company a reason to raise my rates for $44.

Ouch man. You've been having some odd luck in the past few months with shit getting stolen.

That's pretty bold to cut out a cat but man that had to sound loud and fun as an almost straight pipe out. Haha

This happens to you every year. Turn on an AC and your awesome stereo to drown out the noise.

Fly up to Canada for the weekend.

I'm actually working on the 4th and 5th. Those will be good days to get stuff done since no one will be around and the "sacrifice" of missing out on festivities means extra time off and a higher labor rate for contracting, so I'm fine with it.

In my place, July 4th is celebrated (well the past few years, not much of a celebration) as Fil-American Friendship Day. It still is in the calendar.
It used to be Independence Day, too. Your people took down their flag formally on July 4, 1946. Then one of our presidents decided to make it June 12 in honor of the time we declared Independence from the Spaniards more than a century ago.

DD, put up a pic of her smiling/laughing. Poor thing is not happy as shown. How old is she now? Is she big for her age?

She is now 2.5 months old. Last checked she was in the 93% for length and 86% for weight. I don't know why, but I really like that picture. But if you want smiling, here she is in a crappy phone pic.

Lovely pics, DD! Even the full pic of her crying is good. I like her in that one too. Little one has character! Enjoy her at every stage; each stage passes so quickly. And take lots pf pics.

An individual claiming to be doing SEO work for an extremely popular web site keeps e-mailing to ask me to remove a single link to the site he claims to represent from a single web page that I maintain. His messages are generally only a single sentence long and while he normally responds within moments of my replies, he has thusfar refused to justify his request for doing so. He just keeps asking me to take it down. Does anyone have any idea what his issue might be?

I'm having some difficulty conceptualizing how one link on a personal page on my personal site is even worthy of attention from the 59th most popular web site on the internet (note: yes, it's porn).

It's most likely to do with topic validation or topic verification...

His site is related to delivery of adult material, and your site is a blog? or tech site? He's trying to ensure that his site doesn't get tagged as related to blogs, tech sites, etc... (The more topics a site is linked against, the lower the SEO score or page rank).

That way if someone searches for blogs related to technology, they don't get his porn site... If his site gets displayed with yours in a search result, sheeple out their may not understand why and ping google/bing/yahoo to have his site removed from search listing due to topic issues.

Hm. Whatever. I suppose it's amusing insofar as gaming Google Search Rankings is a career option now, but no one with the ability to recognize words that are in English would ever mistake the site in question as anything but a porn site.

This is not porn - it's just a girl riding a bike to the beach - but it brightened up my day quite a lot and I suspect that other fellows here might enjoy it as well. It needs to be enjoyed at a place that is not work though.

Make a fake account.

... people tell me to do that crap for whatever social network they want me to participate in. It's kind of a BS thing, because without a lot of tuning on both your local clients and specific digging in to the site's privacy settings, even if you fail to disclose your real name there's still so damned much personally identifying information being disclosed just from your web browsing activities that it's functionally irrelevant.

Anyway Lunar, the video involves a very pleasant high definition bicycle ride through Key West (?) with the sort of young lady that 90% of post-pubescent males would very much like to watch ride a bike, in an outfit that clearly does a great deal to enhance the overall pleasantness.

OK. No boobies for you, Lunar.

One of my neighbors named their wireless network "Surveillance Vehicle 802". I didn't know I had any neighbors who were geeks with a sense of humor. Probably best to break onto their network and introduce myself by sending a dinner invitation to their printer?

Sadly, if those geeks don't particularly have a sense of humor about it, it's just as likely at this point that you'd wind up having dinner with an FBI agent.

Driving in Russia

An email forward from an acquaintance: "Russia now requires dash cams in passenger cars so some amazing driving videos are coming out of there. Having just been in Russia last month, I can personally tell you…they drive aggressively and crazy. These are real events…not Hollywood stunts."
