Hi,

having problem with a computer that has been crashing. Checked that the latest BIOS was there along with the latest drivers. Added ASUS ACPI driver along with some vacuuming of the internals. No crashes now, been running some prime and 3dmark on it.

The problem, when trying to run system restore gui, rstgui.exe, or starting the service it tells me the file can not be found.
Scandisk did not help, nor did sfc /scannow.

Anyone with any good ideas to fix that? Besides that annoying thing it seems stable.

I've spent a fair amount of time working on systems that have it on or off. Software updates, driver updates, and add/remove programs absolutely drags with it running. You can also see it in the memory usage on XP and 2003 (not Vista because of it's "use it all-for now" memory philosophy).

After doing a google search -- try:Unable to use System Restore - rstrui.exe.... The solution offered seems appropiate for your particular problem. The solution is to basicly reinstall the particular file from the original source disks; Then use sfc /scannow to get Windows to the same update package version, Finally, you may need to go to Windows update to re-update your copy of Windows to the most recent version.

Sorry, one of the first things I do on a computer is disable system restore. Major performance hog.

Same here. On our production computers, the fewer things running in the back round, the better.
