UPS FOR A LAPTOP?

Hi
After having the power at a public school fry my computer last year with brown outs, and black outs, I was wondering if a laptop would be a better idea for protection?

If you are running off the power supply on a laptop, and the power browns, or blacks out, does the battery jump in and prevent power fluctuations?

I've got an extra UPS, but, I'm thinking of selling it to the guy that just bought my computer, who doesn't have one. I REALLY don't want his power frying a perfectly good machine, if it can be helped.

Might consider a decent surge protector for a laptop but a UPS is overkill. Avoid the $9 bargain ones. A laptop by nature of its power adapter would be easy to fix with another power adapter if it did get fried as well.

I'd agree with MaxBurn; a brownout is likely just to fry the power brick, but a surge protector (a good one) is a good idea.

IIRC, Belkin makes a mini surge protector for laptops...just one plug and very portable.

I picked up one of http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=173 for my inlaw's laptop. Nice as the phone & network version has phone & Ethernet protection as well as power. It's small and it comes with a velcro strap to attach it to the laptop's power brick. And it costs under $20.
