Apparently the HD manufacturer's utilites are designed for internal drives. Other than some basic tests that can be done with HDDScan, what do you suggest for confirming defective USB 3.0 external drives?

I am omnipresent
I suggest buying drives and putting them in enclosures yourself so that you don't wind up with retarded drives.

I believe Western Digital has a testing utility for Windows that can verify external drives. I don't know about other manufacturers.

Yes, but most of the enclosures suck and are heavy/bulky.

It does not see the WD drives. I can't find any utilities for Canvio drives either.
