One of my Sandisk Extreme SD cards was acting funny 4-5 months ago and now I know the reason. Damn you WD!!!

Sandisk wants to be bought out.

And it happens.

Makes sense for WD to buy into the memory game. Spinning HDs will be gone in five years or so and they'll need to evolve or die.

It's about time Western Digital purchased a NAND manufacturer. They were in negotiations for a flash memory manufacturer in 1999, but backed out. This will be helpful to reduce the cost of the NAND used in HGST SSD products and WD SSHD products. I sure hope they keep SanDisk separate like with HGST. I think having 3 subsidiaries: HGST, WD and SanDisk with their individual manufacturing, but sharing R&D would be best.

I don't really care about WD, but SanDisk is the only viable alternative to Lexar in the fastest cards. I hope Sandus does not suffer.
