I became curious about Windows 7 scores when I read that Ddrueding's memory score was only 7.5 on his most powerful system. Somehow, for 12GB of 1600MHz DDR3, that seemed a tad low. So here are the scores of a few of my computers :

Core i5 2400 with a kit of 4GB (2x2) Kingston 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 :
CPU : 7.4
RAM : 7.6

Core i7 860 operating at 3.2GHz, with a kit of 4GB (2x2) OCZ DDR3 1600Mhz 8-8-8-24 :
CPU : 7.6
RAM : 7.6

Core i7 950 with a kit of 6GB (3x2) Kingston DDR3 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 :
CPU : 7.6
RAM : 7.8

If D²'s system really only scores 7.5 for its RAM, then there absolutely no logic behind those scores. Frequency and timings don't seem to have any impact.

I don't follow what you two are on about. What's surplus RAM got to do with performance?

It must be nearly ten years ago that Tech Report or someone similar demonstrated that minor difference in RAM timings were of academic interest only.

The i7 950, on the other hand, has 20% more bandwidth with 3 channels instead of 2, despite the lower 'effective' memory clock of 1066MHz vs 1333MHz. Hence the improved score.

Just to rub salt :)
4 x 1GB of GeIL PC6400 Ultra 4-4-4-12-19 2T and Phenom 1055T running 240MHz Bclck for a base 0f 3360 MHz and Turbo up to 3960 MHz gives me:
Processor: 7.6
Memory : 7.6

I wouldn't pay any attention at all to those scores. To the inept they just indicate if something is drastically wrong.

Are the data points on a log scale or similar? They are all clustered below 8.

Sure, but is 7.9 14.5% faster than 6.9 or is there a greater difference?

Oh and it was a while since I checked your sig and it's crazy how insane you are. There's more than enough money across those four computers to buy a small nice car. Insane, I tell ya. When I find an empty spot on my floor, I put a computer running the FAH client, but it seems that when you find an empty bay inside a computer, you put an SSD. Solid State Drueding.

When I lived 100m from work, I could get away with one decent system. Now I live 30km+ from work, so I need a machine at home. Then I decided that I needed two gaming machines at the house, for when friends come over and we want to do battle. I also have a pair of force-feedback wheels and joysticks ;)
